I can tell you from experience, you can't start them too soon. It will take longer than you think to make it the way you want. Also; to find the right materials.

I have some fixing to do on both my 4x8 and 6x8.  We've had a rash of storms lately, and my 4x8 was tossed into the air and landed upside down on my trailer tongue.  Put a nice 4" hole in the roof/ceiling.  Still undecided on what to do with it...either a roof vent, patch it, or replace the entire roof and make it slanted (it is level now).  This spring I added a 5' x 1.5' or so window from an RV to the side for a nice panoramic view.  The 6x8 received some water damage when water leaked around the windows.  I will just replace the 1/4" luan with tongue and groove pine to match the ceiling.  Only the roof is insulated, however it holds the heat in very well.  I have a few sheets of styro insulation laying around and I just may put some in to keep the moisture down and off the wood while it's torn apart.  It currently has holes in all 4 corners, and I am toying with the idea of moving them around and insulating the floor while at it, we'll see.
