Marmish question
« on: Jan 25, 2010, 09:29 AM »
How do you guys fish your marmish rods ?

I bought two at the St. Paul Ice fishing show and I am having a hard time getting a good hookset.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Wiener

The hookset takes time to get the hang of. One of the reasons I like my Jontuu rod over the Marmish is because its easier to set the hook since its longer.

I just got mine for christmas but have caught 12 or so gills, The strike indicator is so sensative that the fish usually has a good bite before you realize it so you don't have to set the hook

just what Flypopper said most of the time their hooked before you know but keep a good eye on strike indicator.  when I see the fish hit I jerk the rod about a foot then when I grab the line I try to make sure the hook is set

I got a tip from Roman, one of the guys at Marmish, for setting the hook. He suggested dropping the tip of the rod down slightly before setting the hook....kinda like a scooping motion. Imagine your rod tip at 90 degrees from the ice (perpendicular), then dropping the tip toward the ice while lifting your wrist up at the same time.
I've been using this method this year, and my hookups have been really good.
One fish at a time...........
