Fished Sandy Lk today.  It was my first time going there.  I did ok, caught about 10 gills, only one keeper.  The fish were very finicky today, wouldn't have caught any without my vexilar.   Does anyone know if there are any size to the gills or crappie that come out of that lake?

All the panfish I encountered there were small. Sounds like you found the same thing.

I've caught 8-10" Crappie in there a couple of years ago. I was about 50 to 100' from shore in the middle. I think it was about 23 fow or so, 5 to 15' down. I've also seen people in the corner by the boat launch get some, they get more but they are smaller. I've been told that the narrow area between the deep part and the bigger shallow part is a good place to go but I have not tried it. Lake Emily has some huge gills in it but finding them is tricky. If you get small ones move to a different area. You can caught some nice ones with the small ones but you will have to go through a hundred or so before you do. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TRY THE LITTLE LAKES AND PONDS ON SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THAT AREA. And I am not talking about the ones at the Lake Emily Road and Alston Trail intersection. But the lakes with encroaching shores like No Name Pond on the left of this map.

It's a PDF so it will take a little time. Me and a buddy found one with with giant gills, biggest was between 10.5" and 10.75". We found it in the spring and have not ice fished it but you could easily toss a rock across it.
