manual just says 24 to 1 and that synthetic oils are availible, doesn't say anything about break in,it's the techumseh engine.sounds like it's ok to use, just wasn't sure.

I would start out with the manufacture's brand. Jiffy and Strikemaster have there own brand oil. I ordered a new SM Lazer Pro 3hp and I will start with SM oil, that way I am covered under warranties if I have engine problems

I'd stick with the 24:1 ratio using approved 2stroke dino oil for the first gallon of mixed fuel. Jiffy puts out a synthetic blend oil that is 3.2oz to 1 gallon of fuel, I think the ratio ends up as 40:1 that you could go to after the initial first gal. I'm going to try that when my last batch of mix is gone.
My Jiffy/Techumseh manual makes no mention at all about a break-in period.

After break in run 80-1 or 100-1 your auger will run and start much better. Amsoil or Opti-2 are great oils and this 1 mix runs all your small 2 strokes, chainsaws, trimmers ect, no more having 3-4 gas cans for all the different ratios.

esox, I don't know much about Amsoil. Is there anything in particular as far as numbers on the bottle I should look for? I like the thought of having just one mix for everything.
thanks

You about have to go with what the warranty says to start and my 2/3 year old S/M I think said not to use synthetic.  Things change but after the warranty I use Amsoil Sabre Pro at 80:1 in it and all my chain saws and lawn equipment plus the Amsoil Outboard version in my boat motor.  Opti 2 would be fine also and might be easier to find.  Much cleaner running.

I use Stihl just cause its what I can buy around here. I run it a little richer than bottle sez.

Strikemaster has stated that a 50-1 synthetic mix is ok and wont void warrenty, todays quality synthetics are way ahead of the old Dyno oils of the past.  When I got my Nils last year they told me break in at 50-1 and after that I could run any mix I wanted without voiding warrenty as long as I was using Amsoil and not exceeding 100-1

I understand with the warranty issue, How long is the Strikemaster warranty?? My Strikemaster was previously enjoyed but for the fifty two dollars I can't complain 50 for the auger 2 dollars for my buddies (who doesn't ice fish) ATM fee.  I know I know how do I sleep at night. Its not my fault the previous owner thought he could get a dirt bit for it. Someone else offered him 25 and he took my buddies 50 on the 75 asking price. Perkeyone

AMSOIL Saber 100:1 2-Cycle Oil is recommended for 100:1 mix ratios in normal service. Richer mix ratios may be used where desired.

2.6 oz. per 1 U.S. gallon 50:1
8 oz. per 5 U.S. gallons 80:1
1.3 oz. per 1 U.S. gallon 100:1
8 oz. per 6 U.S. gallons 100:1
