A sad day in Eastern CT.
« on: Nov 21, 2009, 05:37 PM »
 >:( >:(Here's my rant for today..I had 2 homemade floating traps crushed by some jerk in Ct. today. I have permission to trap a small pond on private property not far from home but when we went to check them today we found them crushed on the side of the road.  The old woman who gave me permission suggested that I set a trap to find out who it is. If another Shanty member hears someone talking about this please point me to the suspect.

Put out a couple of more traps out and a good trail camera in the trees. You can watch whats going on online from the comfort of your home, yet rush back over there to take care of it should the need arise. If you get my drift........... >:(   Plus we would love to see the pics of when you go back in a hurry........ ;D
I wish I was in heaven sittin down..........on a 5 gallon pail!

There is a real need in our country for our Media news to remind poeple what Private Property is and the items on it. Along with private belongings aloud on state land. It's hard to believe how bad it's gotten in the last 20 years. It use to be you could set a trap with a float and know one would touch it. Now everyone pulls up and pulls your trap out of the water to see what it is and some just take it. There is no understanding of our use of the outdoors anymore. Therefoore we suffer when someone spots our equipment(weather it be a monnow trap or a deerstand) and either destroys or take it.

Our general public no longer holds the values of days gone by.

It is sad but true.

Best of luck catching the culprits. Some people don't understand the need for trapping. It's sad to say it's becoming a lost art.  Don't let them get you down. Have a good season.

Met the JA that crushed my traps today. Figured I'd give the pond another try with some new traps. I got one heavy shiner and four mediums in the first one after a two hour soak. As I was pulling the second one out i heard this jerk yelling at me that i was stealing "his" shiners. After I told him that i have permission from the landowner he and his white trash daughter admitted to crushing my others. This idiot claims that because he lives around the corner that the shiners are his. His lovely daughter told me that I should stay in $#@$%% RI. I wonder just how many other peoples gear this moron has ruined. He has promised to ruin my traps again if I re-set them.    My question now is   where can I find an otter to put in the pond? I already have a few plans for his front yard.....these will probablly inprove the nasty place that it is.      Any ideas?

CT has laws against Sportsman Harassment. You could (and should) contact the DEP and let them know what's going on...

In addition he has violated criminal law. Breach of Peace, Criminal Mischief to start. Make compliant to your local P.D or CSP Troop

I hate to start s#@^ but if he is trespassing on property that isn't his to damage your gear you should call the DEP to inform him of the law. Usually that is all it takes to enlighten a fool.  ::)

Have-a-heart trap with a can of cat food in it. That will catch one. Just need to be near where there is one. That is crap! I had someone steal 4 of my traps this year and I'm still mad about it. I will run into someone taking my traps soon enough. Sorry you had to be treated like that. The girls mouth is only as bed as her parents! She doesn't know any better. He probably had her smash the traps just to show her the right way to be a loser!

Don't let it ruin your season. Every dog has its day!!!
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!
