Anyone Ever Paint The Inside Of Their Shanty?
« on: Dec 08, 2009, 09:25 PM »
I have a 1-Man Clam flip-over; I don't know if it's just my preference, but I would prefer it to be darker inside as I feel too much light still manages to get into my shanty. Has anyone ever painted their canvas cover from the inside? Thanks in advance!

i take it you have the white canvas? I havent heard of that problem with the dark canvas...If you paint it (not sure with what?) but it would make the canvas less pliable it would seem especially in our temps. I have seen the replacement canvas for $50 depending on the model...right from clam website....might be the easiest solution that wont damage the canvas...

Some flat black spray bomb paint should tone it down for you and not be an issue with flexibility. If it wears off just put more on. Even black primer would work.

I used an old wool blanket in my 1 man clam. I didnt to it becasue of light penetratikon but for warmth. I out the spots that I had to for windows, vents, and poles ect. Than just slid it up inside of the canvas. Its dark as heck and a heater is just about not needed. I also left the corner that i put my heater in void of the blacnket due to fire hazards :) Once in a while it will get alittle wet but it just slides right out to be dried. Its a cheap easy fix. Fleet darm has the old army surplus wool blankets for 10 bucks , I think? or check your local st vincent de paul or goodwill. Good luck!

i know where ya coming from...my scout is like 7 yrs old and has the blue canvas.  i do like the new ones with the black interior better for sight fishing.  i was thinking of just adding the foil looking insulation to the inside like mentioned above with a wool blanket.  i figure it would help a bunch with insulating and reducing condensation plus 'blacking out' the inside.

Thank you! I was beginning to lose my mind thinking I was the only one with this problem. I also have the very old Scout, so I know that you know where I'm coming from.

Everyone else, thanks for the replies. I'm definitely considering my options; Fabric paint, spray paint, or the wool. I will definitely post my finished product once I'm all done. Thanks again everyone!
