I drive by 3 small ponds en route to work every day (1-2 acres each)... and I was really surprised to see that all were still iced over (completely) this morning... and I'm in the Lehigh Valley. I don't think we got nearly the 1-3 inch rainfall that was predicted in my neck of the woods.

We were in the high 20's last night for a low.

We got pounded here in the South, probably at least three in. On my way to pick up my bro for a Cabelas run, I nearly drove right into Pickering Creek where it had overflowed the road and was running over a foot deep. Fortunately another vehicle was U-turning, which caught my attention. Should be hearing from our daring Northern brethren with tales of ice fishing, very soon. ::) I'll take 4'', thank you. Let's keep that cold coming!

well I just got home from the hospital to the tune of a half dozen voice mails "we ice fishing this weekend or what?" and my answer is that I will be, you all can risk it.  Just stopped at Leisure lake and threw out a 10 pound rock, it broke the ice but didn't break through.  I'm gonna roughly call it 1.25 to 1.5 inch.  The rain did nothing to the ice that already existed, just made the top layer of ice white, but solid white, not that march white of late ice.  I told pikepopper that I'm gonna pack the bibs and boots in the car for tomorrow and head to Emerald.  Here's me praying knowing that if the coves made it, they should be safe enough, we are all chomping the bit, me more than annone cause it is the only deal I made with the wife before the babies that I can escape to go icefishing.

Till Tomorrow guys.

Anybody else actually checking out ice thickness or are we all just driving by lakes waiting to see some other idiot to be out there?

No ice to check down here in the bayou country. Nor will there be any time soon with this wind. :P Be safe JM; don't want to have to start calling you my depth finder. ;)

Ski, at least now you have a reasonable excuse why you missed that deer....remember, aim for the one in the middle.

Mark, I'm waiting to see what you find.  I just got here to the hospital, I'm gonna blow off all my patients on some idiot PA and get some sleep (I just got one heck of a comfy therapeutic chair from the orthopedic docs downstairs - You know where your medicare money went - into my chair, just an FYI) and fish it hard tomorrow if at all possible.

I'm feeling lucky boys, even got the camera in my pocket.

Hillscreek Lake, Tioga County; Checked it this afternoon, almost completely covered except for two small areas on the beaver hut end. When she seals up, she will make ice quick; Bring on the low temps. :o

Guy I work with went by Hamilton on his way in today, said it was 2/3rds covered now; basically it formed overnight; I suppose the windchill last night was estimated @ -15 & it had a direct effect on it.

Up here in the way NE, alot of the smaller impoundments are skimmed over with at least 1" or more...as far as the State lakes out in Wayne county, its gonna be a bit longer...two weeks per say til I get on my home away from home....To the person who asked about Prompton, I'll pass a mesage around to see if I can get you and info...til then, they are calling here for 4-6" snow...maybe turning into rain..hi's around 35-37 deg.    but the rest of the 10 day looks very promising

thanks topher hoping its safe to make the 3 hour trip next weekend

I still haven't heard back on Prompton or Lower Woods yet....Lower Woods is usually the first to get safe ice, but awaiting feedback..
