Ocean / Boysen trip
« on: Mar 06, 2010, 05:05 PM »
Hi guys, Making my plans for what will likely be my last hardwater out-of-town trip for the year.( have mentioned about it on previous posts) Got my mind set on Ocean lake & Boysen after some perch & eyes. After a week of warm weather & a forcast of another week coming, I,m planning to get over there this coming weekend. Would like to know if anybody did any good this weekend & how the ice conditions are. It's a ways to go from here in the Salt Lake area, and wouldn't want to get there and find out I can't get on the lake. Maybe there's a local bait shop that knows the scoop?  Been trying to wait for the bite to pickup on the perch & eyes but haven't heard yet. Maybe I should still wait alittle more? But definitely don't want to miss out on the hardwater cause it's like they say, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day working". Any advise or info would be greatly appreciated..  Thanks in advance   RDO

Fished Boysen sat afternoon till after dark. Looking for eyes, didn't look for perch at all,no hits at all.  Ice was 28" of good clear ice with 2-3" of slush on top. Ice was still tight to shore where i was.

Thanks.. Lt.   I'm goning to make the trip this weekend coming. ( probably a sat, sun, mon. gig) Solunar charts say it should be the best wekend of the month. And with all your warm weather going on who knows how long the ice conditions will hold up. Again thanks.  Ps, will try to hit both lakes so if you get out maybe we might hookup.  RDO

Thanks  Mike, likewise, was great to have somebody to fish with..  Didn't do much better on sunday, a few flags 1 small eye-14.5" 2 nice perch. But monday was a great day. limit of eyes 16-20" ,11 nice perch and 1 jumbo crappie 12.5" was a beautiful day and had lots of action. broke off on 3 different walleye right at bottom of ice.( fished the other side of long point from 8-15' deep) They were definetly bigger than the 20 "er I landed. really bummed me out. guess I need alittle more practice on using line in hand. harder than using a pole for sure. would like to get over again with my boat. Let me know when the spring open water bite gets going.  Thanks again. RDO
