Just picked up a 15' aluminum tonight.
« on: Dec 08, 2009, 08:39 PM »
Picked up an 81 Sea Nymph SS 150  15' aluminum bow rider.
Comes with a 50hp Merc.  Plans are to see how she is on the water in the spring, and then maybe totally restoring it in a heated barn next winter.  It's in great shape for the year with a newer trailer.  Now I plan on looking for a slightly used 15-25hp 4stroke and sell the 50hp Merc.  The Merc. runs fine, but this boat will strictly be a troller for early spring Salmon.  It towed home like a dream.  Couldn't feel the thing behind my Tundra.  I'll have to get a hitch for the wifes RAV.
Any how, I plan on bringing the boat in the garage soon, and filling her with water to check for leaks and how bad.  Then if it needs repair, I'll redo the interior this Winter instead.
Here's a link to some pics.

Anyone with experience with riveted boats, please chime in.
Yes, a used Lund would have been nice, and it's not 'perty' like a new boat, but is in good shape and the price was right.
And I did post over in myfishfinder, but everyone seems to have moved over here now.

I also saw that add and thought it was a great deal, when I called they said someone was coming to look at it, was going to flip it out this spring.

Good luck with it.

Nice boat!

Got the bobhouse ready? Doing Newfound this year?

Welcome back.

JIGGIN.

I'll be doing Newfound this year.  I have my best luck, just outside the mooring field in front of my place.  But I'll be bouncing to other water bodies this year too.
I think I'm going to put the shanty off Belmont Beach on Winnisquam this year though. Out off the South side of the 20' hump.  One side of the bobhouse will be 70' of water and the other is the western tip of the 20' hump..  The only issue with that area of Winnis. on ice is we bring up a lot of Salmon..  If I do get my shanty on Newfound, it'll be in Pops Cove..  If I venture out in the deep, it'll be on nice days with the portable.  South Ledges, 60' of water just north of the lighthouse.  You know where that is.  I'm glad it's finally getting cold.  According to my chesapeake bay retriever 'Ginger', the water on Newfound is still like bath water.   ;D

That's funny... I saw the ad too and was thinking there had to be some sort of catch. Just seemed too good to be true. Guess I was wrong. Congrats on the deal. Should make a great boat for NH waters.

While it`s on the trailer , stick the garden hose in the boat with the plug in . Grab a big permanent marker and crawl underneath. You see which rivets are leaking and can mark them for later repair. They sell a buncha epoxies including one that is a stick ya heat with a small torch and then apply to rivet. They eventually fail. The best way to fix leaky rivets is too drill them out and replace them. Not sure how much of a deck you would have to remove , but that`s the best route. Hopefully she is pretty tight, after all , that`s what we all wish for-(wink wink-knudge-knudge) and ya won`t have to take it apart too much if at all. I would also keep the 50hp and look for a small kicker outboard to troll with. You will regret moving to a smaller motor.

Reminisce away Tippin2! Those are good memories. Fun times to be had again this year.

Bloodhound,
Winnisquam will produce bigger lakers for sure than Newfound. That area your planning to go to is very good for lakers during open water fishing, just be careful of open water though. That area opens up quick towards the end of the year.

Good luck and keep us posted!

When I had my aluminam, I had my rivets welded over that leaked. They have to use a low setting to not go thru the aluminam but it worked better than any sealant or apoxy and never gave out.

Let me know who you used.  I'm in Derry.  If you used someone in the area, I may go this route.

Just a little info. for you on the new boat, many aluminum boat owners have used bed-liner spray to seal rivet leaks on there boats, I for one have used it and its still working fine. It also make an nonslip floor. There are a few good brands out there and not that expensive ....Many boats forums rave about doing this....... just a thought.
