11 mile update
« on: Dec 05, 2009, 08:56 PM »
My friends and I hit the mile today and had a darn good day I pulled in the first fish about 7:30 or so and that was a salmon after that we all stared pullin in good sized trout. I landed 2 19" trout that came in about 4 lb a piece but my best friend always has to take my thunder away from me. He pulled in a 22" trout that was a little over 5 lbs. Last fish of the day for me came up a 20" pike.
We were at cross creek and had alot of people around us that was having a pretty good day as well. The ice was a solid 4" and makin a lot of noise.
good things come to those who wait......Im still waiting!!!

I'm guessen it was the day before a storm rolled in is the reason we did so good. Good luck out there and be safe.

Don't know much about the salmon because I don't target them. Most guys I see target them east of Deer Island. As of today the ice is 7" thick at Suckers Cove.

Once in a while some salmon linger around the east end after the spawn.  I've caught some healthy ones in schools off of Goose Island before in about 20-30FOW, but that's not their usual location.  In the 80's I used to fish over the channel straight north from Witchers boat ramp in very deep water, 100' to get the salmon.  My buddy, Jimmy, used to have the flashers, etc, to bring them in.  I'm not a big koke fan so it's kind of serendipity when I do catch them.
