Attaching Items to your Vexilar Pro Pak
« on: Nov 21, 2009, 07:40 AM »
I have an FL18 pro pack and I recently purchased a dual beam transducer for it. I noticed there isn't any area to mount the toggle switch on the propak but it did not come with any screws or plugs? What does everyone else use to attach items like a toggle switch or batter indicator to the propack base?

I don't own a propack but I like to use rivets on my projects when possible. They look cleaner and never loosen up.

I guess you have the original propack because the propack 2 has predrilled holes and mounting spots for everything. I have the Genz box with my Fl-18, dual ducer and flexlight and my Genz box has holes for all them. If I remember correctly I used 8-32 stainless socket head cap screws to attach my switchbox and they threaded right in the holes. The holes for the battery status indicator, dual ducer switchbox and flexlight came predrilled on my genz box. I drilled the hole for the toggle switch which turns the flexlight on and off. I may add a cigarette lighter outlet in case I need to charge my cell phone or camera out on the ice.

My setup. (Took the cover off for the pics)

No, there are pre-drilled holes, I was just not sure what to buy that would fit those holes, I was hoping it came with the proper screws.

I like that your genz pack has a wider spot for the dualbeam transducer head, the propack does not, i m going to have to see if I can make some adjustments for that as well

Vexilar sells foams in the 3 ducer sizes for the original Propack if you don't want to cut up your current foam. http://vexilar.com/pages/support/support_parts.html

None of my stuff came with screws or anything to attach the accessories either. Vexilar attaches the battery indicator and switch box on the propack 2 and ultra packs with some sort of plastic push in rivet. I just looked on the propack 2 I have here and the holes are not drilled completely through, it was hard to get the calipers in there to measure but they are around .145" in diameter. If the holes are the same size on your propack you can use some M4x.7 screws and nuts and through bolts the switchbox on or use M5x.8 screws and get a tap and tap the plastic. After you tap the plastic the screws will thread right into the plastic. The propacks are made out of a harder plastic than the Genz boxes so I would use a tap to cut threads instead of using the screws to make threads.
