MyFishFinder.com Just like iceshanty but warmer
Also the Des Moines Ice Derby which is located at Easter Lake on the SE side of Des Moines and that is on Sunday February 7th.
Mark,Is that a definite date and location for the Ice Derby? I haven't seen anything on it yet. I was hoping they would consider moving this to a different lake... guess I'll stock up on some shad lures
Hey rjbreese I do Know of a tourny on Jan 9th, IGL Bonanza on Spirit Lake. Here is the web site for more info: icelanders.com/ICE-Events.html I live in Melcher and fish the same lakes you do. I also fish a lot of ponds. When we get fishable ice, we should "hook up" or I might see ya out on one of the lakes mentioned. Heres to hard warter and tight lines.
the lehigh fire dept puts on a pretty good one on brushy creek....it's usually the second weekend of january, safe ice permitting.
In your area there is the JDRF tournament which is usually the end of January or beginning of February. Also the Des Moines Ice Derby which is located at Easter Lake on the SE side of Des Moines and that is on Sunday February 7th.
just spoke with a gentleman at easter lake and he told me that the fishing derby on easter lake is not a tournament but rather a gathering and it is on sunday feb. 21 from 1pm-4pm
We were going to do the Ice Derby last year but decided I'd rather not pay an outrageous fee and be monitored every second by fish-nazis. I just wanna go out and have a good time, I stick to low-key tournies.
I guess if you consider $15 an outrageous fee then you must not fish many tournaments. Most of the entry fees for the ice tournaments that i have fished range from $30 all the way up to $70 and if you fish the NAIFC circuit they are quite a bit more then that. The proceeds from the tournament go to the Des Moines Park and Rec Dept so i guess that isnt too bad of a cause either. As for the being monitored every second by "fish-nazis" i guess i would be included in that group since i helped out with the tournament last year. No one is looking over your back every second but periodically we would go out amoungst the anglers to see how they were doing and make sure no one was blatantly cheating. Again, in every tournament i have fished in the officials do the same thing.
:thumbsup:do you have any contact information and or specific dates of the one this year, i have never fished brushy but have heard alot of good things about it.
