looks like they would work well. only a couple things that could possibly be a problem. 1 is that the extra weight would take away from the acual swimming of the minnow if you are using live bait. also you would have to leave about a foot of distance between the minnow and the structure or it could get tangled up in it.

Those video's are pretty convincing, but god knows ho long they sat there for those fish to come along.

Thanks for the links Coldbum.  Will give it a try this season, we are allowed 10 lines so one could be placed around the fake weeds, never know.

We tried em last year in 29' of water in a main lake basin at the edge of a bay and got the weeds set up by 0630 a.m. and by 2 p.m. we had so many fish on the screen that the fishing was just stupid we put out a spread of 6 abut 3' apart and drilled holes close on the ends and about 24" away from the SOS all along both sides.  We ended up catching a bunch of crappies that day on the ends and the basin side but it's hard to say definitively if it was the string or not.  I will say that these crappies did definitely hold the area longer having the structure down there.  More testing has to be done before I'm totally convinced.   I have used them a few times with mixed results but mostly positive thus far.

I think they would be perfect for a perminent shanty, you could drill plant and leave them for the season, with a portable you would be moving to much to add any real lasting effect

I bought some tall aquarium plants and twist tied them to my Aqua Vu camera cable. It weems to draw fish in for a look that may have just swam by. It gets them close enough to see your bait anyway.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
