recoil spring on 2hp jiffy stealth
« on: Apr 02, 2009, 11:52 AM »
I have a 2 hp. jiffy stealth that is about 5 yrs. old.  I think it was the first year Jiffy came out with the stealth.  I have replaced the recoil spring twice.  My questions is am I doing something wrong or is this a common occurrence??  I should add that it happened both times when my buddy used it and maybe he forgot to push in the decompression button.  Would this cause the spring to break or not work??
I fish not because I regard fishing as so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly as much fun.  Robert Tarver "Anatomy of a fisherman"

My 2 hp Stealth doesn't have a compression release on it and I have never had a problem with it. I don't think that is your problem.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Is the rope too long? If you have ape man arms, you may be over pulling it!

I have the original 2hp Stealth also. I have never had recoil issues. If you over pull the recoil it will be hard on it and bust stuff up. You don't need to pull more than 18"-24" of rope out to start it. You can slowly pull the rope out measure it off and mark the roape with a sharpie so you know your not over pulliing the recoil.

I would guess that over pulling is the problem. Short quick pulls.
