Bare hill..3/14..run for my life..

no one is to ever speak of this to my wife...

went to bare hill this am, knew it would be the last day to get on the ice but never thought it potentially would be MY last day..

got on by the docks, went over to the island to left, pop a hole..3" snow ice
yeoow i'm outa this spot

went to east shore in shade, 7" ice..sweet

set up and started jigging bluegills and crappie, 1 after the other.
i noticed 2 other guys split as soon as sun started warming  ice..about 9 am
about 930 the ice start groaning, louder and louder. constant crackes going thru ice like lightning bolts.
then i hear this cracking sound behind me,  the ice is expanding from heat of sun, shattering shore line


holy moly..i got to go

i race around and throw the tilts (bait and all) into the jet sled.
start headin to beach and every few steps the ice would crack. i got to the dock and threw my gear onto the dock while i could see the ice pusing up against the shore and turning to slush..

whew...

i'm heading to Comet tomorrow...

You are lucky to have gotten off. Were you alone?
Can you imagine if I was with you today. I would of had a major problem.
I agree Comet should have held up today.
I fished Plugs today 1 small rainbow and a slime about 14" There is still about 9" of ice in the back where I fished but it is going fast.
I might hit it one more time tomorrow.

I thought I was crazy for going in up to my knees to find thick enough ice today.  That was just at the shore, then there was 3 inches of black ice under another 4 or 5 inches of snow ice.  This is definitely not a good time of year to go swimming.

I did manage to jig up a crappie and a bunch of bluegill and perch so small I laughed when I pulled them up.  I still have shiners, so I'll see if I can convince the wife to go out tomorrow with me somewhere.

Wear your spikes, and don't go alone!  Don' stand too close to your fishing buddy, either!

Comet is locked solid as of tonight.. (several buddies just got back) 10" of ice!  wow

Flaggs!                                      1/4 mile.... they had to be at least a 1/2 at bartons, Lenz gotta love ya, march  to your own drum!!! (respect that)

Jigger, pretty good! Wieghed in almost 15 lbs of filets when I got home. Tons of fish under legal size... really nice day with water like glass!

That's Great
I go out of Eastmans in Seabrook NH starts April 1.
 Did you ever do their mud hole runs in May? Short run 5 Miles or so wth some slammer Cod 30 to 60's and nice haddock.
I think I'll give it a try one night next week off shore up in the Beverly area. Got my clams yesterday.
