« on: Feb 24, 2009, 09:02 PM »
Looking to make about a 3.5 hour trip up to angola or ANYWHERE i can to find some ice!!! i have been to big turkey once last year for my first time and that is all i know about your beautiful lake filled area and would be thrilled to make the trip back from here in dayton ohio. if anybody has information on the condition of ice on big turkey or maybe somewhere better to fish :P i would be much obliged. sat too many times here in ohio and had too little to show for it. not complaining would just be nice to drill some more holes before putting up the gear on another year of this great sport of ice fishing!!! thank you very much. Zach

Well Zach, my info may not be that useful as we are supposed to get rained on Wednesday night, so the amount that falls will definitely change the ice conditions, but.........heres i what I can tell you from what I have been through starting Monday......We hit Fox Lake in Angola and Pleasant Lake in Angola off of 327...fished the lakes for a total of 5 hours and caught 4 fish: 1 small LMB, and 3 solid BG's.....lots of weeds, but no fish to be found! Hit up Sylvan Lake across from the Gene Stratton Porter House and managed 25 keepers over 5 hours or soone gill measuring 9.25", but.......that's a long walk across a decent size and depth area, so if you are not going tomorrow AM keep an eye on the posts up here to see if someone comments on Sylvan after we get the rain tomorrow night!

That's what I have figured out by hitting these lakes over the last couple days.......good luck this weekend if the ice is still here....if not you could always head to Michigan  ;D and find some solid hardwater.....chek out their boards and see how far you have to go North if we don't have good ice after the rain

I ain't gambling on the ice or how much the upcoming rain affects it.  I'm headed for Houghton again this weekend.  20" of ice there last weekend, and with below zero nighttime temps and mostly below freezing daytime temps, I'm sure there is more ice there now.

Jeff
