Christening the "Green Hermit"
« on: Jan 28, 2009, 11:23 PM »
Tbone and his buddy invited me along to witness their first nights in the green hermit. No more cold campouts for this BC boy says Tbone ;D
He aquired a 9X12ft canvas tent and designed a wood burning stove set up to heat it.
Its an oldie but a goodie....Here we are setting it up

The wood heater being installed

Now base camp is all set up.....its time to go fishing

Gamagator waiting for a bite

Tbone displaying something imaginary that he wants to catch.....

Then shortly after displaying this nice laker in similar pose. Couldn't wipe the grin off his face ;D

Here is the inventors of the Green Hermit after a day of fishing.

Stay tuned for upcoming adventures from the green hermit.

TGF, that looks like the perfect vacation to me. As far as sleeping on the ground with no heat Drifter, I'll leave that to the sled dogs ;)

We did that for years Drifter but its much nicer when you have to spend a week out there, and you get to dry off completely.

That pot will keep growing bud as long as no one posts ;) Just have to post at the right moment before anyone else does ;D

Tbone is having trouble with his computer. Its in the shop. He may post at work he says if it allows him to get onto photobucket with our work sensors and all.

TGF,
Thanks for posting you sure have some beautiful country up there in B.C. . That is one nice lake trout, the largest I have ever caught is fifteen inches on a tip-up.  May all of you have many years of great times with the Green Hermit.
T-Bone I do not know if it is required but you may want to install some type of spark arresstor on the stove pipe. Nice setup with the reflector and floor heat shield. you gentlemen are true diehards never had to use my snowshoes yet to ice fish.

He has a spark arrestor at the end of stove pipe....I just didn't get a pic of it ;)
Yes snowshoes are just a way of life up here if you want to access some lakes. Its no fun standing in 8 inches of water getting wet feet. I've seen big 600cc snowmachines bogged down in that slush.....its no fun.

I have nightmares of getting my 1000cc pig stuck in waist deep overflow!!!!!  :woot:
I hit some last year but was able to pin the throttle and ride across the top of it.
I tend to stick to well broken in trail since I usually travel alone.
Trying to get a 700 pound sled unstuck by myself is not high on my things to do list.  8)

Nice fish T-bone! I'm jealous that looks like a very nice warm and cozy setup. I notice there wasn't any sleds. You guys hike in every day?

Thanks everyone! I'll tell you the truth it was disappointing loosing the big one at the hole but that's fishing. Lakers are truely a remarkable species. Special thanks to TGF for all the photos and helping land this one. Second to no one thanks Gamagator for the help organizing and catoring the many great meals. Hope to see your pictures soon too buddy. I have the measurement pictures of the laker somewhere on my camera, but my computer is down. Anyway, I wouldn't trade these times for anything!

BC ROCKS! FISH ON!

I did the exact same thing with a tent very similar to this. The canvas in those older tents are of good quality. The corners never tear either. I use mine for elk hunting but may have to try ice fishing with it someday. Wish we had lakers like that in Sask...we do i guess way up north.

Geez that was a great trip, lots of laughs, good food and great company. It was really nice to go with a couple of guys that had great knowledge of the hardwater sport. I'll try and get some pics or a video up as soon as I figure out how to transfer it to the site. Thanks again TGF and Tbone!....

I will pm you your laker pics so you can post Gamagator. Tbone and I downloaded his camera on my puter last night at work. Don't think he got the pics of tape and card with his laker. Looks very blurry and probably be Disqualified so don't think he will post. Too bad as would have placed :-\
