INFORMATION SEARCH - LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK
« on: Feb 19, 2009, 11:02 AM »
I'm thinking about doing an excursion to Northern MN this spring.  My "idea" (borne of office visions - lol) is a backcountry trip...ATV's and float tubes and/or canoe.  Looking to find possible trail locations, regs, etc.  I used to use an outfitter out of Ely years ago...but was more curious as to ATV trails, where they would be allowed and prohibited.  I have done a lot of googling, but mostly find vague information on large maps.  If anyone has done anything like this or knows an outfitter that specializes in gear, maps, rentals (I have my own ATV - but for a canoe with a 2-wheel portage trailer).  Thanks in advance...I know this is a bit off topic, but I seem to find more hardcore serious anglers here.

Please excuse my ignorance...I'm not really familiar with anything north of Mille lacs anymore...haven't been north of there in 20 years.

http://www.irontrail.org/recreation/atv-ohv/

Check this link out. I think my sister and her husband ride up there, I will ask them.

This is a big fat PDF file from the DNR, it shows the trails pretty good.

Here is another one..

Thanks Skipper...those are helpful.

I was looking for something (specifically) that would have like an overnight type deal...something more in tuned to an angler...with the fun being both the ride there AND the destination...maybe a place to motor to, camp overnight (or more), do some fishing (like wading and / or belly boating)...something a little more backwoods...

I'm sure myself....and 50,000 other people are looking for that though...:-)
