Took my 6 year old son Brady out today to beat the weekend rush and he managed to hook and land this nice pout ( just under 7 lbs ) by himself other than me pulling it through the hole.  He also landed 2 more about 3 and 4 lbs and had a couple of bigger ones on....I on the other hand produced one microscopic male that went back down the hole   Looks like Walter's luck skipped a generation.

Brady's pretty patient as he comes elk and turkey hunting with me and is forced to sit still and be quiet...... it was extra funny today as I would look over and see him doing something "wrong" but keep my mouth shut as his "wrong doing" was outfishing me 5 to 1

Forgot to mention, when I was there yesterday morning.....I had 5 wolves come out on the ice. 1 came close and 4 hung back by shore. Don't think they could figure me out as I was hunkered over hole. The one was weaving and running away some trying to get me to chase her probably then others would gang tackle me. I had a howling match with one of them hung up on shore. The party was over when I stood up though. The one came to about 100 yards. Wishing I brought the 7mm and mouse squeeker. More gear to pack.

Yeah, Brady told me there were wolf tracks around....going this morning....will take the big hurt with me just in case

Open season....3 each in our area.  Will post pictures if lucky.. missed a black one earlier this year but he was at 400m....takin the rangefinder this morning....can hit them out to about 500 if I know the distance...or further if lucky hey terry

The firestick is only as accurate as the firestick holder.

One day that we were out for char, TGF witnessed me whack a coyote on the third shot running out past 600.( but running straight aways and me lying in the snowbank so it was a little easier )  The slog out in the slush to retrieve him made me rethink ever doing that for a coyote again!
Didn't run into the wolves today unfortunately....some other day perhaps.

I fished an open water derby a few years ago and it was won by a 6 yr old, who caught a 20 lb laker, with very little help from Dad. I don't know who was happier, Him, His Dad, or the dozens of grown-ups that he beat....

Yeah, next time I'll take him a full-sized rod if I expect fish of any size as he had a tough time getting leverage and a proper hold on it......he managed to winch it in but lost a couple of nice ones because of those troubles.  Went back yesterday for a couple of hours and he was busy playing so we didn't catch squat
