nice fish, it's great to see the little guys enjoying the outdoors. Can anyone provide any information for a newbie to Diefenbaker? I moved to Saskatchewan last year, and have attempted Diefenbaker a few times with no luck. It's such a big lake it's hard to know where to start. Also, whereabouts are people driving on the lake, I always hear the ice can be pretty sketchy there. I would like to target walleye, burbot , perch or pike mainly. Thanks in advance, and again congrats on the good day

I'm from Calgary, I moved out here to go to University. I have to say the hunting and fishing in this province is amazing. Makes it hard to study sometimes...

I sure could use that hush hush info on the jumbo perch.

I can keep a secret with the best of them!

I have caught a few perch in there. There is no hush hush IMO, they are in so many places on the lk. What i can tell you is that most of my perch were caught south of the FF...but that is where i spend all of my time... so for me to tell you elsewhere is better or worse would be perchless. The fish in lk. Dief. are very nomadic at times. You can either go and hunt them down or sit tight and wait till they arrive. I find flats to produce perch in this lk. Having said that, i have caught perch elsewhere also. It is one of the most challenging waters i have ever fished. Just when you think you have them all figured out....they let more water out and all that hunting down of fish has changed. Some of the most successful guys move around all day.
Here is an example of just how nomadic the trout are. Iwas fishing at the trout farm on a Saturday. At about noon, a real nice 7lbish trout spent some time beneath my hole. I was able to see a chartruce jig stuck in his upper lip with about a 12 inch peice of mono trailing behind. The very next day I moved a little more than 3 kilometers further ...well..guess who showed up under me. IMO that is why many guys will not fish this lk. They try and try and soon give up after several skunkings. Just my two cents worth..for what its worth. Later

In all honesty , your best bet is to go to the fish farm and your son will, in all likelyhood, catch a whitefish or two. If you are after walleye...they are tough till later in the season..even then you gotta know where to get them. Pm me and tell me what you want to catch...maybe i can help. Tell me where you have tried engineman?

You can't beat a day on the lake with kids.  My 6 year old is a fishing nut....he got hooked after a couple good outings last summer.  Now if only I can get my 4 year old interested.  What a great thing...get to spend time with my boys and do something I love to do.  Pretty hard for my wife not to approve of it!!!

if i ask my gfs kids hey you wanna go fishing before i can finish thee question her daughter 6 is already jumpin up and down to get .. now to get her 11 yr old son to come with i have to bring the laptop or something else that plays video games

nothing beats a 5 yr old (last yr) running around with a pink purse and releasing all your perch in different holes..
then taking a 13 in perch missing both eyes to show to mommy .... its amazing how fast someone will scream when they look ... good times good times
