what time of day?
« on: Jan 23, 2009, 10:11 PM »
just curious of what time of day everybody has the best luck for spearing? I seem to have the best luck between 8:30 and 10:30. rarely ever see anything at all after 11:30

Those are good times to spear. but anytime during the day is good. but from 230 to dark is also a good time. i just speared one tonight around 5. i hope that this helps.

Don't know if this will apply to your area, but here in this part of the state, in December it's just getting light enough to see around 10:45am or so, and is usually too dark to see in the hole before 4:00pm.  January and February days are quite a bit longer, nine to five say. I've kept a log the last couple years, and most fish I have seen came in the last two hours before dark, from 1:00pm  on.  A few before noon, but the majority after.

Most of my fish have been in the AM this year. I usually try to be on the ice during the major periods listed on the solunar fishing tables, they seem to be pretty accurate.
