Conditions for Simcoe from Innisfil beach park to Long shoal to BBP and back.
Coming out of the park the whole area is rutted pretty bad. The mild and all the slush has left some huge ruts form Atv’s and snowmobiles. I feel for you walkers. Although this morning was –8C there still was some slush ponds. Ok some friggin huge ones.
I just bought a new 2009 Tundra 300 and put it through it’s paces today.
Headed up from the rutted area in front of Innisfil Beach Park and just past the 9th line shoal and hit my first obstacle. A large crack with flooded area on either side. I had traveled trough some slush but no problem so far.
An Atv had crossed here the day before so I wanted to make my own tracks. Crossing the slush pond was no problem on the Tundra. It was pretty wet and fairly deep.
Got up to BBP and met up with Icefisherman. Headed back to Long Shoal through some different conditions. Some packed snow. Some small slushy areas. We fished there the day watching everyone move from location to location. Ice managed two lakers. We never moved our spot.
We marked a ton of fish and finally headed back in around 2 pm. With two of us on the one up sled it was a bit of a challenge but worked out good. Here is what it was like at the shoal. 12” of snow on 12” of black ice.
I watched a bunch of guys traveling around on Atvs. It was doable but some of them were really working the front end. There were lots of at the Shoal so I can’t see why you wouldn’t be albe to get out there. A shovel and some kind of snow anchor or ice anchor to winch off if you get into trouble.
Traveled through lots more slush and this spot kind of took me by surprise. I pride myself on being aware of my surroundings but I was into this before I knew it. The Tundra walked through it pretty good.
Headed back to the truck at the park but decided to try one more spot for some Whities. Had two on ½ way up in 80 fow and lost both. So no fish for me today.
Enjoy your weekend and be prepared.
