good lakes for jigging
« on: Jan 13, 2009, 10:00 PM »
Can anyone tell me what lake in nj is a good lake for jigging up some perch or other panfish and which part of that lake, and what type of bait? Im new to jigging and I just bought a flasher and would like to get a chance and see some fish and jig them out. Most of the lakes i've fished at include Muscnetcong, Monksville, and green turtle pond didnt provide not even one fish. I couldnt even find them on the flasher, I think I saw a couple but they would not hit at all. Or if private just pm me.

Thanks,
Mike

You won't see inactive perch sluking on the bottem with a flasher so even if you don't get a reading there still might be fish under you. Might be you tried out your new flasher on a day the fish had lockjaw and weren't rising off the bottem to your jig. Could also be to much gain which blurs the readings.

You didn't mention what you were using as far as rod, line and lures. Alot of times you need to finesse the fish. You may need to use an UL rig and go down to 2 lb test and use very small jigs with mousies, maggies, etc..

Im using a 24 inch ultra light pole with 4 lb berkley fireline microice crystal tipped with 6lb 4 to 6 feet of vanish floucarbon line. I used little jig heads tipped with a mousie and never had any luck yet. Then I used the castmaster jigg also with mousie and never caught anything. I also tried tying a jig head with a castmaster about 1 foot spread and didnt catch anything. Neither did i ever have a bite and i have a spring strike indicator to help with hits. I never tried the  swedish pimple. I might try that tomorrow on cranberry lake. I never fished this lake and would like to know if its a good lake, any hot spots?

Thanks
Mike

Mike you keep saying you have caught zip. How many time have you Ice fished? Finesse is always a good route. Sometimes you can not catch anything 2-3-4 times out in a row, we have all been there in the beginning of our ice adventures, but persistence pays off. Also fish with someone who does have some luck and pay attention. Good luck bud, yours will change soon enough.

Yes its easy once you get the hang of it. Its cool seeing the fish rise to your jig.
