« on: Jan 24, 2009, 07:34 PM »
I was at goose bay this morning after getting skunked at Keywayden. I saw a few trucks in the lot at the state park. My wife wants to fish for some perch. What is the skinny on the bay?? How far out do we have to trek to get to good fishing??Is the whole place good for perch?? Will anyone help me??

Jeff I lived in A-Bay and Redwood for a few years.  Goose Bay is the hottest spot I know of for perch during the spawn.  Drive all the way out as far as you can.  The mouth of the bay is narrower and is a great choke point for fish moving into the bay to spawn.  The St. Lawrence river is only about 200 yards IIRC from the mouth and there is some great chances to hook up with slabs and big Pike.  We usually jig for Pike with swedish pimples and do well.  Using a shelter is good becaust the water is not deep in the mouth and you can see down to the bottom better.  Good Luck!

Jeff, I fished Goose Bay first ice in December and caught some nice perch fishing from south side off boat launch, parking is limited there.  I usually fish Goose Bay first ice and last ice. If you walk off from the State Park, water is only 2 ft deep in the Bay, but I have caught nice perch there first and last (March) ice.  Never fished Goose Bay in dead of winter.  If you drive to end of State Park, many park there and walk out on river.  Never had much luck on the river but it must be good at times from the crowd that is there in late Feb.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, but When I go to the end of the road on the state Park Raod, where do I go from there?? I haven ever fished there before. Do I park on the end of the road at the state park and walk onto the ice heading toward the right??  How far out in that spot before we hit good perch fishing?? Is a sled or wheeler nessessary?? We usually walk and drag our stuff (shanty and sled). My wife loves to see the bottom when she fishes for perch. Any more info would be so appreciated. Thanks,
