Tip Ups
« on: Mar 01, 2013, 11:07 AM »
I have been thinking more and more into getting a few tip ups. My Question is what type of fishing line should i use i mainly fish at Canyon Ferry and Georgetown for the trout. Your feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I use a Dacron backing with my leader of choice depending on the fish I am targeting...I like green McCoy but there are several options out there...Because you are targeting trout I would choose a fluorocarbon leader in the apporate poundage for the fish you are catching...Maybe 6-8 pound test for the leader...

X3 what hunter said      ...  I was typing this response so I will post any way good luck..
I am not familiar with CF..  I set all my tip ups the same no matter where I go.  I use nylon or dacron, dark colors, 20 - 30 lbs test on the spool.
Then depending on where I am fishing and what fish I target... I add the appropriate Leader, hook and bait.  Walleye.. clear water.. live minnows, you might need 8 or 10 feet of 6 or 8 lb leader and a single hook.. change the leader often if catching walleye.

Northern..water off a little.. big bait... 5 or 6 feet of  20lb mono or steel for a leader, double Treble hooks.. usually works fine.

I am sure others will be able to help you more on specific water.   I use as heavy as I can get by with,,  but will build long light leaders if fish are negative..

This is what I do and have for years.   I will be interested what other ideas there are ..  hope this helps
