I tie a 12 inch tag, too long it defeats the purpose for me, feels like mono again, get about 4 lure changes then tie again.

Snag what kind of knot are you using to tie your liter on? Or are you using a swivel?

It's not that fishing is so important, it's just that so many things in life are so much less important

in the summer I blood knot it, but 4lb braid in winter I just use a swivel.  In all fairness you could just tie direct for first hour or so, but you have absolutely no stretch then.

Nanofil is good stuff, I use it all the time.  But make no mistake, it sucks in freezing weather.  No better or worse than other braids I have used in freezing weather.  Best be in a shanty if you plan on using it.
It definitely has it's time and place but I've found that with a little of the food grade silicone spray, Nanofil becomes at least 75 % more useable in the cold.   Extreme cold is out of the question though !    Like you mentioned, a heated shack is the way to go !

Constantia-Can some one give me some info please.I havent fished Oneida in about ten plus years.I think there used to be a bank or some place that you could park at and walk right out towards a couple small islands. Is that parking spot still aval for icefisherman? Also does anyone know if the fishing is still halfway decent out there?I think the island might of been called wantry. We used to get some in about 18 feet near that island.Headed  out sat.Any info much appreciated

I'm with you on this !   There's absolutely no need to fish any heavier braided line through the ice on Oneida Lake.  It allows you to tie direct to your jig/lure but still strong enough to land most big fish !   Using a short leader is always an option when the fish are picky.     4 lb braid, softer rods, looser drags, sharp hooks = success !

Yes, the spot is still there, fills up quick though. I think it is mill st.
The first island is little island, the next is long island, then west south/west is wantry.
Lookin at all the posts, the bite has been sporadic.

Yes, 35+mph winds tend to remove most of the snow ;D.  There was only about 2-3" out there to begin with, The lake effect stayed a bit north of the lake.
