Colorado rep'n the perch in the short area
« on: Jan 09, 2017, 04:04 PM »
Good luck for the weekly drawing, BBM, FS, and westsloper. We all went a perch'n but came up short. How are we supposed to compete with south/north Dakota and Idaho?? I need to switch my focus to macks and trout for the rest of the tourney. Especially since the local weather looks to put a big dent in local ice this week.

Any of you guys want to pool our knowledge and head to 11 mile, Granby, or Green mtn res this coming Sunday?

Looks like Shaun (Fishslap) got a nice one, around 12" but it really seems 12+ inch jumbos are rare in CO.  Still, I'd rather catch 9-11" perch or bass all day than freakin slimers.  Anything but trout.  Plus I-70 traffic ain't fun.

I think I'm staying on the front range for whatever's left of this season's ice.

I got a 12" crappie yesterday also but not even worth putting on the crappie board.  I was hoping for a big bass on Saturday but no luck.

Pulled a few good ones New Year's Day, didn't have my tourney card for pics though.
Not that it would matter with 15"+ fish coming from up north!

Jiggin up jumbos!

...."Call it; heavy metal noise!" Nice win, fishalp.

More slime for me!

I'm changing my plan to hit stink mile Monday instead. Slayer, I wasn't asking you! ;D But I know how that skunky place loves you.

Johnny - Have you been out chasing slimers yet this year? You're welcome to come with us Monday if you're available and I might have a seat in my truck for you.

I'd rather fish death ice in 40F than deal with -25F for slimers.  Fug that cold crap and freekin traffic- :P

Forecast looks great for this weekend! Plus, we've got huts+heaters. Not sure about you but when I'm heading up to ice, I leave way before any traffic hits. Arrive at dawn. Come back midday or stay up all day and eat dinner to return later. No problem. Why not join us Slayer? Unless you've already got plans for a polar plunge

Westsloper, those perch are some chunks. I see they having the tournament over there this year, if I didn't have to fight the ski traffic I'd be doing it again.

Yes I have huts and heaters. Icing in the hills simply has no magic for me anymore.

Aw c'mon you can't talk like that....you're the Slayer, man.

That pike wasn't magical? Looked pretty special to me.

I've only gotten up to a 27" pike out there. Still waiting for my magic over 30" pike through the ice day. Something about arriving at 6am when it's -20 makes me feel like I'm special...in the head. ;D and I do it all over again every dang year. Lighting up makes everything special  ;)

Adam,  Fished WF once 2 weeks ago, on early ice. Lots of Lakers, not a lot of size.  Monday might work, you still have my # ?  , no worries about a ride, I might be up that way anyways!

That may come sooner than expected if this Chinook doesn't move on out. I'm already speculating on East.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Basically if the weather is bad enough where I'm gonna need a hut then I dont go- ;D
