As long as the drill is a min 14.4v , the ice isn't to thick, your blades are sharp and you don't lean into it, it will work. I burned out a 14.4 drill after about 10 holes going thru 36" of ice. Bit much for a light duty setup.

I'VE BEEN DRILLING HOLE WITH MY CORDLESS DRILL FOR 3 YEARS NOW.I HAVE A 18 VOLT BOSCH. 2 YEARS AGO ,IN 26" OF ICE , I WAS DRILLING 25 TO 30 HOLES PER BATTERY. I HAVE 3 BATTERIES SO I NEVER RUN OUT. BEST THING I EVER BOUGHT.

I got 18v ryobi. With the ice being over a foot, I drill all the holes about 3/4 of the way and then finish by hand. It works real fast.
You
will
burn out the drilll or strip the gear box, if your not carfull. If you are going to drill more then 4 holes in an afternoon - get a gas auger.

AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A GOOD NAMEBRAND DRILL THEY WORK GREAT. ME , MY FATHER, & MY UNCLE ALL USE THEM WITH NO PROBLEMS. WE DRILL RIGHT THRU THE ICE. THE THICKEST ICE WAS 26" 3 YEARS AGO.I GO FISHING ABOUT 20 TIMES A YEAR & STILL USING ORIGINAL DRILL WITH A 6" LASER BIT.
