yea why no spikes they work better than no bait  Plastic tails work  w/ bait at least one spike, unless you wantta try Berkley powerbait grubs they also sell other already dead baits in the store

Waxies keep at around 50 - 55 degrees. Spikes(maggots) keep in a refrigerator at 35-36 degrees. Neither need fed.

The reason theres no spikes , is because all the baitshops around dont have bait yet

I use different bait on different days.  When gills are agressive waxies on large
teardrops.  When they are finicky spikes on tiny jigs.  Normally I go with moussies
on medium to small lures.  Try a chunk of shrimp to trigger strikes from jumbo
panfish with lockjaw.

Or just go to grubco.com. They are quick, and offer several types of bait. Mostly bulk, but you can run through a bunch of spikes when there is a good bite, on. They usually include a temp. guide with the bait as well. I stock up right before first ice.

I hate to be a broken record, but marmish makes a maggot jig that works great, you dont need to tip them although they do work better tipped. I keep them on hand at all times since they work so well....another maggot style bait is the berkley HoneyWorm, found them last year and have been using them year round for gills, best plasitc bait I have used hands down (for gills)

Wet flies will work when the bite is strong.

I will reiterate what KSCrappie said; The local pet store is a great place to buy waxies and mealies.

absolutely, i outfished guys the other day for gill on a green ratso, they wwere using wigglers, waxworms , and spikes.  im gonna order a many as i can afford this off season, they are a great bait, outstanding.. they dont always work, but when the fish arent biting, they attack these baits, a true finesse bait, it helps to be able to see down into the water, just shake that rubber tail in front of a fishes nose, sometimes they wont hit, and at other imes, especially when the fish just arent hitting anything, theyll suck it in, just to see what it is. cant say enough good about these lures

I agree. I collect my own from my field they are easy to keep. It takes a little work though. They seem to work great when the bit is slow. Fish tend not to eat something that hurt them before.
