50:1 or 100:1 for a jiffy
« on: Nov 05, 2011, 03:37 PM »
Hey guys, reading some conflicting info on oil mixtures.  If i get some some AMSOIL saber, (seems to be greatly liked)  should I run 100:1 or 50:1 for a new year old jiffy auger.?

Thanks

Just one more point on this.  I checked with my local stores and they carry alott of AMSOIL oil, mostly synthetic, no SABER.  Will any AMSOIL work?

also.... Can I mix synthetic oil/gas into the tank that currently holds regular oil/gas form last year?  Or do I have to bleed/run all old oil out and start fresh?

Regards..

When I went to Sabre, I drained my old gas and started over. I mix 100-1 in both of my Eskimos, and love it. I run the same thing in my chainsaws. It works great. I don't know about in a brand new engine, but I only ran a half tank of 50-1 through my new Eskimo, and then went to Sabre without any problems.

Just my opinion but I would never leave any gas in my auger until the next year. I drain it all out and run the motor until it dies before i store it.

I run 100:1 Amsoil Saber in my Jiffy and it's two years old.

I used to run 40:1 jiffy oil, if you aren't using a synthetic, you want to stay close this ratio.

Ahhh  I see.  Ok, how do i swith to synthetic? I have regular oil in tank now.  Drain tank, run it dry and restart with fresh synthetic?  Or will this potentially cause problems.?

I just drained the tank and made the switch, I didn't worry about the little bit left in the fuel lines and carb.

as long as the old gas was treated id just top off w/ the 100 to 1 mix. wont hurt anything. im chicken so i actually run 80 to 1  with the sabre oil to be on the safe side .

You only want the Amsoil Sabre Professional 100:1 for air-cooled engines. Amsoil makes a lot of different oils from engine oil to transmission fluid to fuel injector cleaners.

You are fine running 100:1, I always run 70:1. Up to you. Its best to not mix oils but its not going to hurt anything.

This is what you want.

Not to change topic from Jiffy, but does this also applies to strike master as well?  I normally use the pre-mix bottle 40:1 in my 2000, but after the reviews im considering amsoil 100:1 or 75:1.

Amsoil Saber can be ran in any two stroke.  The ratio is up to you.

It will work fine in your Strikemaster. As a matter of fact your 200 has the same Tecumseh motor as my Jiffy that I've been running Amsoil Sabre in for years now.

My local parts store doesn't carry Amsoil Saber so I would have them order it for me. I'm sure your supplier would get some for you also. I wouldn't use just any Amsoil product in an auger.

I have a jiffy and strikemaster. Both have a 24:1 ratio on them. Maybe I should switch to amsoil for a better quality oil.

I have run my strikemaster laser mag express at 80:1 for the past 3 seasons with now problem. I just bought a new laser pro and I think i am going to run amsoil in it at 50:1 for the first couple tanks then switch over to 80:1.

anybody know any places in southern ontario (Toronto, GTA ) that sells amsoil saber? Man I love Canada, land of 'can't find a gosh darn thing', regulated to death.

You can buy it direct from them at the distribution center at 6625 Tomken Rd, Unit 12-14, Mississauga, or, there are other independant dealers. Some Motorcycle shops, snowmobile shops and marinas also carry the stuff.  One litre will last you a long time.

My 20 year old Jiffy model 30 still runs like new, the tag on it says run 20:1. I use Walmart Super Tech 2 cyl. oil last time I bought a gallon was about $9 works for me.

I gotta chime in on this one. This is a very familiar topic of discussion. I built and maintained 2 stroke motocross engines for my boys for 20 years. When 2 stroke synthetic oils started to become popular, everyone wanted to know how much they could get away with. I heard so many guys bragging about using 70:1, 80:1 mix ratios and later watching them push the bike back to the pits after smoking a crank. I agree that the synthetic oils are superior but for the amount of oil that you will use in the course of a season, why take achance with extreme mix ratios. Unless the motor is bogging or fouling plugs from excessive oil, I gotta say stick with manufacturers recomendations. Just my 14 cents.

Been running Amsoil Saber in all my 2 strokes for at least ten years with no problems. Probably a good thing I'm not racing them. I like to take it easy with my auger and listen and read about how fast everybody else drills.  ;D

Good info.  so..... what ratio would you use with saber synth? 50:1 or 40:1.  Jiffy says on site 40:1 could I do this on synth??
