RTFM!I do believe most if not all manufacturers specifically say in the MANUAL to NEVER leave your auger standing in a half drilled hole. I know a lot of people do it but I have seen some end up with bent augers as a result. On a warm day, they will melt into the ice and end up leaning way over and it puts a lot of stress on the lower part of the corkscrew and you WILL end up with problems.
Not a big one really. Wife got me a new Eskimo for Christmas. We went out togethe and when I was done drilling, I set it down and she told me I am supposed to drill hole ,most of the way and put auger in hole standing up so not to wear out handle. I thought this over, and decided it would not wear handle out, but should they be staged in upright position? or does it matter?
"Wear out" the handle?Maybe on one of those cheap strikemasters with the plastic handles.
You are right, but considering the argument is with your wife, you lose either way.
