HAPPY 18Th Birthday to my son Slyfox7. You've been my ice fishing partner since you were 5yrs old. I remember every outing we've had and I've gotta tell ya it's been awesome watching you become the ice fisherman you've become. I hope you never lose the passion you have for the hard water. You make me smile.  ;D  ;D  ;D

I hate to ruin everyone's wonderful discussions of sharpening lawnmower blades, cooking and anything but ice fishing but can we get back on point? What are the current conditions? Anyone out on the ice right now? Walking possible? Do we need to start a new thread that actually discusses ice fishing on Oneida Lake?

What was your low temp this morning?   Web cam looked like 5-6 inches of slush at dark. last night what time did it hit 32 degrees on your thermometer?, how many hours was it below freezing?  that will tell you how thick the ice layer is above the slush, most are letting the lake refreeze smoothly today, but I'm sure theres wheelers tearing it to shreds at the access points, gonna be chunky monkee when it totally freezes.  My gear got wet enough on my last adventure, I'll skip today and go when its less wet.

Reel i am counting on your report later you always do a good job and are accurate and a guy like me who loves the lake and fishes it very often but has to travel two hours to get there appreciates all the info you share in your reports i can't give as much info as some guys who are on the lake everyday but i will give you what i got. Thanks agian
I just heard the same thing as Reeleyz as far as conditions. Got a buddy out there now that said walking a bit tough and you pop through every step. His sled bogs down a bit but said he made it out OK. 4 inches slush under the crust. I'll go tomorrow. I imagine by this afternoon it'll get a bit tougher wlking in with the slush sticking to the bottom of the shanty :-\

Here you go shepherds pie lovers! A bit involved but absolutely on point!!! Just make sure you drain off at least 3/4's of the grease from the chuck. It doesn't say to do that but it comes out way better that way, trust me! Also you want to prep everything first, it's a must!

I am by toad harbor and just saw 2 sleds go by close to shore. they stayed on top. Going out to investigate this afternoon. This end of the lake has very little snow on the ice, so that
layer of slush had a chance to get hard. Gotta be 3" on top. Hey Snag, It's Anthony!

I bought a Makita lithium 18 volt back in 2007 when I blew a rotater cuff, it worked fine drilling ice under 8 inches , but once it got bigger, I had to grind the adapter and make a couple flat spots as it was spinning, later after a few weeks, my chuck was getting burned up, so bought a second drill before I ruined that one til my injury healed, 100 plus bucks a wack, in all honestly if you have trouble drilling I'd invest in something bigger like a power auger.....

Hope the weather is wrong!  National Weather Service model has lake effect starting tom. night right on top of the lake.  Monday starting up north just below the 104 corridor, but then settling south to just above the throughway.
For Monday though it also seems to have wind speeds over 20 gusting to 30 on the lake.

Maybe just enough time too freeze that slush layer, need a little snow for shade and keep the noise down..

no watches, warnings or advisories issued yet,.  that's a good sign.

ORDERED! My stablizers suck, had to walk funny to creep along to not to fall. My legs ached for two days walking like that.  I also hyperextended my knee and put me out of duty for 3-4 days. I'm done with that hopefully!

Filetandrelease, Thanks!

slymer83, I looked a month ago at local stores, REM in Fayetteville had them but no LX. Checked Amazon yesterday no XL, Ebay, one XL pair, didn't looked like Kahtoola microspikes? Thanks anyway!

NICE FISH GUYS!
Bart Ebay ones are 100% Kahtoola Microspikes. Mine showed up today,They make them in both red and black.I am ready for the refreeze.

at 0900 today chapman area some sleds and wheelers out slow go for wheelers but the slush was not heavy or thick enough to get them stuck. the sleds i saw going had the throttle down and were zipping acrosss the top of the slush. from what i was told there is approx 8inches of very wet slush, did not go out myself.  i would have to say by wensday the conditions will be good, and when  the slush freezes u better be ready for 2ft of ice or better.

Went out on Big Bay just for something to do, wasn't too bad, able to stay on top of slush. Kept a couple nice crappy and a dozen good gills. Some guys came out at noon and said they were at 3 or 4 launches on south shore and said it was a mess. They said the law was at Williams telling people not to go out.

Just got back from Chapman's, its more like 3-4 inches. The top layer breaks when you step on it, but my sled glided behind me without any build up. Managed 5 perch, and walked a half mile out. Other than the wind no complaints.

I'm sure it was a mess.  When it hardens tonite the launches tom. are going to leave anything not strapped down all over the place.  Not to mention guys wanting to see a chiropractor.
Other than that conditions looking PURDY!  Get there early.

Here's the sun rise out of Apps

And the walk back around 14:00

I really didn't mind being wet with these temps and was happy to spend all day looking for fish. Not happy to get blown off the lake though. I've sat through some harsh winds out there but around 13:00 today they were doing damage to the gear so I had to pack up and go.

Oh well. Back after 'em tomorrow.

Nice pics except for the 2nd one - just looking at that slush made me pretty uncomfortable.  Slush and that hellish wind had to be pretty tough. Give you a lot of credit for toughing it out; thanks for the update on conditions.

Ton of slush (surprise) id guess 6-10 inches, atv 's are near useless, actually seen some parked on sylvan beach and they walked out, there was one buried on the VB side on the canal and you can see where others attempted. After this refreeze it's gonna be 1 hell of a bumpy ride. There is also a snowmobile poker run this afternoon so that traffic will make it even worse. Gonna need a little snow to smooth it back out.  Brought home a few perch but honestly it wasn't worth the effort today

Nice pics!
Same reports I'm getting from neighbors that were out today.  Not much has changed from yesterday.
Only lost 1/2-3/4" of slush today.
Gonna be wet tom. But better conditions (I hope)
