I find myself sitting here not being able to fall asleep wondering how I can make myself a better fisherman... Trying to do homework on the lake picking the lake apart but one never knows where the fish will end up or what they are hungry for  that day... All we can do is get out there give it are best and take  the bad with the good... But I guess that's what makes ya a better fisherman the experience... Be out saturday

^^ That's some cool stuff!

Here's the reel from soft water rod. Gonna try it out tmmrw. Has 20lb power pro on it lol. A bit overkill for walleyes but it balances very nice. 50/50. Reason I switched...my hands were sticking to my other reel when it got real cold. Frame of this reel is some graphite nonsense. Hoping itll leave me my fingertips this time.   ???

Fenwick elite tech $25. I love it. I tried Fenwick last spring when I wanted a new spinning rod and ever since I've been sold on them. Try them out! Great bang for your buck.

I have a Coleman focus 5 great unit for my one man ,and good on propane to , I have a new brinkman for my back up which is nice but needs to be in a bucket , If Coleman brought back this unit they would sell a ton , fool proof and rugged

Didn't know you used a heater  :o. Agree on the focus 5, great product. I still have a 3 which doesn't put out as much heat but takes up a loss less space.

There's about a foot of fresh soft snow on the lake. The wheelers I seen were moving pretty slow, if you have a sled use it.If your walking see your cardiologist first :) My husband went out about a mile and a half mid morning (walking) it snowed another 8inch while we were out .......thought we were going to die coming back in.thank god he made me a smutty sled for my shelter, and I didn't go out as far,or I would be posting the coordinates for a free shappell shelter with gear. :)

Definitely a tough walk if that is what you are doing, Deep snow like 10-12 inches. You will give yourself a coronary walking in this stuff for sure. I made a trail out to little island on the sled and then rode back down it to help a bit. The snowmobilers will be out in force this weekend to pack down some paths though, which would help a bit. 4 wheelers are going to have a tough go for sure, especially with a large sled behind them.

You will get more ice.. The weight of this snow will cause cracks and some slushy places that will freeze up. White ice but lots of it..

Take notes, have diaries back too 1981 on Cayuga lake where I grew up, even though I grew up there, it still took 5-6 yrs to pattern my hometown trout and salmon, when I started 11 yrs ago ice fishin Oneida, I kept diaries for the first 8 yrs, once I developed general patterns, I stopped writing complete diaries, just write down occational things I thought were important, I know 5-6 yrs, 8 yrs seems like forever now, I'm mad if I miss last weeks bite too.  but you'll be a better man for it 4 yrs down the road.

for you guys that keep diaries..........do you do it on the ice or water, or do you wait till you get home?      you know us fisherman...the worse our memory gets the better the fishin' was ;D ::)   I am 41 and maybe a little late to start,  but i got a 3 yr old son that will benefit from us doing this now.....later in life!    I cherish the day my teenaged boy comes home and says...."dad we killed them in that same spot from our diary a million years ago!!!!!!!"

Minus 13 up here this morning bruce,  Between my boiler and being sick again for the third time, the month of June is lookin better every day.

I had a huge range of temps on my way to work. It always gets a few degrees colder when I drive toward the lake in the winter.

-6 when I left the house but I had -12 by the time I drove the 1.2 miles south to 49. Got as low as -15 in West Monroe, then -7 in Brewerton, 0 in Cicero, and 7 when I got to work in Syracuse.

Sorry about your boiler issues. That sucks big time with this colder weather.

I write the highlights of a good day and or bad in a calendar, calendar boxes are small so it helps you keep from writing too much nonsense down, but if your really tearing apart a spot  or season like I did at the canal/sylvan beach in 2000-2004, I kept a book, funny though, fishin is much worse now from shore there then say 2005-2007, after those yrs, canal has nose dived back too the 18 inch limits days.
