In the Hole,

It wasn't so bad,  When we raced, I used to have to work on the snowmobiles out in this kind of cold.  How about bare handed changing carb jetting or pulling a skid to change out a broken shock.  Heck at least we had a shanty and heater today.  Besides hockey players are tough.  Even old ex-hockey players. ha ha.  Look at it this way.  The temp went up by 21 degrees from the time we started.

Thanks Filet and Reeleyz for your reply, just trying to stay safe out there and I don't plan on crossing any pressure cracks if I can help it. I may start looking for a sled for next season. Thanks Guys

Hopefully not to you but sometmes you get what you pay for, just saying  good luck and have fun with it   beni

going to head out somewhere today, my buddy and I fished near Jamestown this past weekend . all we could come up with were dink perch and white perch, nothing to weigh in. fished 30 to 32 fow. it was so cloudy you couldn't see more than 2feet below the ice. only 1 walleye was caught 22'', one perch 10'' , one crappie 12'' , one rock bass about 9'' my fishin buddy won a couple of nice door prizes, a acuview  hand held underwater camera and an 8'' auger, tackle box and 2 round tip ups. I won an automatic fisherman. not a bad weekend. good fishing to all and stay safe. bob

I'm looking to make my first trip out on Oneida hard water this Saturday.  I was planning to leave out of Constantia area.  Any info regarding parking, safe wheeler access, fishing areas, bait shops, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Everything you ask for is in THIS thread somewhere, probably repeated 10 times, or make that 40 times.  So I will repeat it again for you, you can find bait and tackle at Apps landing in Cleveland, you can park on Mill st. in Constantia, you can safely access by machine right at the end of Mill st., as for fishing areas, there is not ONE PLACE on that entire lake that doesn't produce at one time or another.  Good luck!

Thanks for the info addict.  I figured it was probably already posted in the thread, but there are 170 pages to wade through.  New to the site and not aware of a way to search for key words in a thread.

Yes, these guys have been great about information!  I am also heading up tomorrow and plan to fish the afternoon, then Saturday and Sunday all day.  I think the biggest help was to download the navionics map. I think I pinpointed some good locations (in my own theory) to try by looking at that map...whether or not these spots hold fish is a different story and I will only find out when I drop a line down, lol.  But anyway, thanks again to everyone on this thread for the assistance the past few weeks, hopefully it all pays off this weekend!

JBoggey1... you got a great deal on your Elite 4X Icemachine. The Cabelas offering appeared after my recent purchase of one from FranksGreatOutdoors in mid January. I paid $299 for the Elite 4X Icemachine (plus they included a transducer for open water which I have heard is a $60-70 value). Just this past week Franks raised the price on this same offering to $349. Appears they are selling them pretty well from the numbers shown on EBay. Good luck with yours. I am going to try mine for the first time this weekend.

Looks like Saturday gonna be "warmer" hoping to get out!

yeah that 24 degrees might be warmer, but don't let your guard down, pretty dynamic system headed down from Canada Saturday, bring a gps for possible whiteout conditions, weather guys are hinting towards major lake effect Saturday night.

I know our tolerances on wind differ from person to person, but for you Oneida veterans out there, what is your threshold on wind speed and how it affects your decision to go out on the ice due to safety and or fish productivity?  I'd like to get out on Saturday, but it looks like it's going to be pretty windy.  I probably won't go out too far, but am I wasting my time getting out if the fish just shut down under these conditions?

I too bought a Lowrance elite 4x from Cabelas.  Will be here tomorrow.  If there is an issue I would be shocked Cabelas and Lowrance would not stand by the product.  It's a late season deal on a good name brand unit.  It's not some off brand p.o.s.

Can't wait till it gets here.  Showdown will go the shelf for a backup unit!

I told the guys that had plans too stay with me this weekend to wait, but I've had too make these hard decisions for 20 yrs on the Salmon River for guys, possible strong winds late tomorrow, possible heavy winds Saturday with snow, who knows what sunday will bring, one jog in the weather and I will look like a fool, its happened many times, but if its there only chance too get up here this winter, probably better days are coming. I'd be there now if my furnace didn't kick out last night, time too call a plumber. I got bars in my shanty, it has too be over 20mph before the noise bothers me.  If your hard core, you know you'll be out there, but a newbie might be humbled by the big Oneida weather.  Just for the record, 2-3 weekends in a row, they blew the wind forecast, much less than predicted.
