Ice Fishing Regulations Liberalized on 23 Wyoming Waters
2/4/2013

CHEYENNE - Ice fishing is becoming increasingly popular in Wyoming and while most waters in the state are open under general regulations to ice anglers, there are 23 waters that have liberalized regulations covered under the Special Winter Ice Fishing Provision.

On Wyoming waters covered under the Special Winter Ice Fishing Provision, anglers can use as many as six lines when fishing through the ice. The provision requires that when anglers use more than two lines on these waters, their names shall be attached to each pole, line, or tip-up. In addition, anglers must be no more than 300 yards from all lines.

On waters not covered under the provision, anglers can use as many as two lines.

Waters covered under the special provision are as follows:

• Alcova Reservoir, Natrona County
• Big Horn Lake, Bighorn County
• Big Sandy Reservoir, Sweetwater County
• Boysen Reservoir, Fremont County
• Deaver Reservoir, Park County
• Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Sweetwater County
• Fontenelle Reservoir, Lincoln County
• Glendo Reservoir, Platte County
• Goldeneye Reservoir, Natrona County
• Gray Reef Reservoir, Natrona County
• Grayrocks Reservoir, Platte County
• Guernsey Reservoir, Platte County
• Harrington Reservoir, Bighorn County
• Keyhole Reservoir, Crook County
• Kortes Reservoir, Carbon County
• Lake DeSmet, Johnson County
• Ocean Lake, Fremont County
• Pathfinder Reservoir, Carbon and Natrona Counties
• Pilot Butte Reservoir, Fremont County
• Seminoe Reservoir, Carbon County
• Sulphur Creek Reservoir, Uinta County
• Wardell Reservoir, Bighorn County
• Woodruff Reservoir, Uinta County

Find complete regulations for waters covered under the Special Winter Ice Fishing Provision at wgfd.wyo.gov and on page 7 of the 2012-2013 Wyoming Fishing Regulations.

I believe that those changes were made at the beginning of the 2012 season, if not sooner.

They make it sound like those of us here in the Riverton area have not been able to use 6 lines. The article on County 10 news made it sound like we've been breaking the law.

I could be wrong, I will check when I have more time, but I do not think Sulpher Creek Reservoir was one of the special ice provision waters before this announcement?

Was Grayrocks under the special ice provision the last few years or is it a new one too?

Has Pathfinder and Seminoe always been a 6 line water?

Weird wonder why they even mentioned it in the paper if no changes were made.

I  fished Pathfinder, Alcova and Boysen as many as 22 years ago and they were included in the six line rule then.  Sometime in recent years, they changed the number of hooks that could be on each tip-up.  It is now 3 where as before it was 1.  I was not aware of this until some mentioned it this season on iceshanty.  See the Jan 18, 2013 post on Ask the Wyoming Game and Fish.  Could this be what some people are talking about?
