Ice was about 5-6" with the top portion being soft slush!!  Was fishable yesterday but would advise caution from here on out until the cold comes back!!!

Glen Elder still had 5" as of yesterday..... the next few days may be iffy but the cold temps are returning the end of the week to thicken it back up....

Drove across the causeway bridge at Glen elder today. Ice didn't look so good from the road. Not a soul out there on it.

KDWP has reported this week that the ice has gone bad and that Kirwin only has 1-2 inches.  I think the middle of next week will be too soon to be on Kansas ice.

A friend drove by Kirwin on Tuesday or Wednesday and said they had a State Patrol officer or a Game Warden (can't remember which) making people put on life jackets if they were going to go on the ice. If you didn't have a life jacket, you weren't going fishing. He had a life jacket, but decided to pass on the sketchy ice. Hopefully next weekend is better.

Was wondering if anybody has been down that way to check on the ice? I think a small group of us might head down on Thursday for a day and was hoping the ice was good. It looks like the temps have been down at night but still in the 40's during the day. I have never been down there before and was wondering do most people start at the main boat ramp and go from there or is there a closer place to park to the fish? I dont want your favorite spot or anything just a place to start and go from there.

Thanks

It was 4" today and if they get the warm days this week like the weather is saying, ice might not be very good by the weekend.  Time to get the boat back out and head further south!

Or it might be time to fuel up the vehicle that is already loaded to the gills with ice gear and head NORTH !  Happy trails.  Regards, D. Hutt

Anybody out on Kirwin today. Wondering if the ice is good enough to fish on tomorrow, starting to maybe rethink the decision to head that way.

The ice is around 5 inches west of Kirwin in Norton, Ks. We are going to give Kirwin a try in the morning. I'll be with a group of four with two kids. Leaving the tents at home because of the warm forecast.

The bite at Kirwin today was SLOWWWWWW! Around 5-6" ice this morning, probably less than 4-5" this afternoon. With the forecast, PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION!

We also fished Kirwin today. The ice that we fished on was around 4 to 5 inches thick. It was without a doubt getting very soft on top. You might be able to fish it Friday but be careful and monitor the ice closely. There was a very large group of people on the north side of the lake. Good luck!

Any recent Kirwin updates? We were thinking about going down on the 1st but are worried about ice conditions. Any type of report will help. PM me if that's your thing. Thanks!

Ice is good to fish!  Northeast corner still has 5+ inches.

Ice conditions as of 12-30-13
We found that the ice is safer on the north side of the lake than the south side. North side of the lake was 4-6 inches of clear ice. It was getting a little soft on top. A lot of people on the north side. The southeast fish attractor is NOT safe in my opinion. Drilled a few holes and it was only 2 inches thick. I did not check the southwest fish attractor but there were a few people on it. I'm guessing it's questionable based on the attractor to the east but not sure.
