Yes...for Pike. You never mentioned which species you were referring to. ;)

For Walleye...I like using  a#14-16 treble and 8-10# Seguar InviizX for leader.

Maybe a bit biased , but i just built it.
It's an inline J.J style w/ no flags. Small bells on the trip line for audible , 360° led's for sight, freeze proof & no pre- spooling. Drop in any size roll of line & it's good to go.

Recently solved that problem. PVC pipe "sleeves" in the backpack separated by lengths of pool noodles. Tipups slide in and out. All other necessary tackle and equipment, including hole covers, fits in the pouches and pockets. Throw it on my back. Auger and minnow bucket in each hand. Good to go.

1500' of line? That's over 1/4 mile. I must be missing something.  I have 6 beaver dams that I have owned for about 30 years. Probably 200 to 250 feet of Dacron line. Served me very well all these years.   Steve

I do. But usually don't use the hut if just running tipups. Sled is just to get stuff on and off the ice, which isn't much as you can see.

Never have to respool, my paranoia, get a random carp at Braddock bay my buddy caught a king salmon 2-3 months after they finished their run and though it was pre ice there have been seasons where we have iced fish that time of year

I have several brands, Heritage, Thompson's, Mooseheads, Allagash and even some Jacks.

I got to say that Allagash, is probably one of my favorites, along with the old Heritage.

My 6 year old Granddaughter and I redid my old Thompson's and she is now using those and she loves them

I live withing 15 miles of where they are made.  Unfortunately, they had a fire there recently but mostly effected the side that makes lumbering tools. Some of mine are from the 1980's and still going strong.

Every year I look to find the best out there for me and now I may have but I need to give them a try 1st.
Cross type traps: I like the height with a lot of snow. I never fish in 1000 feet(normally 8 to 20 feet) so I would never need a 1500 foot spool and it would be very expensive to spool those with dacron. The biggest disadvantage of all cross type is the spool/reel is vertical so it has no way to turn in the direction of the fish. Especially if it is pulling from the side the fish can feel the line pulling over the side of the spool and they often drop them. I thought my favorite was the heratige lakers but I hate the vertical reel.
Beaver Dams: I own 6 and love these traps. First of all ZERO resistance as the fish is pulling because line guide turns in direction of fish. There is no smoother trap out there then these. The biggest problem is using them in high snow...you cant even see them! Also the spools are a little small but not that bad. The other HUGE advantage to these rail style tip-ups is being able to see the tip-up spinning so you know if there is a fish running or not without having to clean the hole to look at the spool.
Tipnspin: I just got mine this week and let me say best of both worlds. Horizontal spool with excellent line guide and a good large spool. These are top quality made from ash, the hardest wood. Because the spool is set up like a rail style the fish(flag) spins as the fish is running. This gives you the advantage of the cross trap height but all the advantages of the rail style beaver dams! As of now I cant see any disadvantage to them. I have sold all my Heratige Lakers and now think I have finnally found the BEST but I will report after the first use.
A bad day of ice fishing is better than any day at work!
