Fished Fernan yesterday. A little shaky around the edges ,but 4" of good ice in the morning.  Wondering what might happen after this rain. How much longer will Fernan ice last?

Fished lower twin today.  The ice is good but fishing was slow.  I bought the marcum lx-5.  It work better than my vx-1.    I love the zoom feature.  I haven't played with it much yet but it  caught me a few fish today.

Anybody been on granite lake lately?  I want to try my new lx-5 in the real deep water.

Nice day at Fernan. Caught some nice perch. Bought my nephew a license and got him out on the ice. He liked fishing with my Marcum. Fun Day followed by a fish fry back in St. Maries. :)

stjoemitch.  What marcum do you have?  I have a vx-1p.  I just bought the marcum lx-5.  I love the zoom on it awesome.  My son and I went night ice fishing and caught some crappie.  I caught 2 and he caught 6.  He has never out fished me ice fishing and he had a blast.    He doesn't like ice fishing that much but it is nice with the fish finder

I have the VX-1P and it has changed how I fish for perch.  I use the zoom feature and have a pretty good picture of how "interested" fish interact with the jig. I haven't targeted crappie especially at night. Where did you fish and what time of night was the best?

I fished Hauser yesterday and ice was fine -- which means I did not fall in.  Although there were lots of cracking noises and the ice seemed to drop under foot a time or two.  Noise usually means it is tighting up but we've had a dicey ice making season and I think it is the different layers sinking here and there under foot.    Fished Eloika near Elk, WA the day before and it was still good.  We won't be fishing into March much and with this wind any open water will expand and might end things sooner than later.

Digger and I fished Fernan on Friday.   32 degrees and snowing. Slight wind. Brought a board and got on the ice. Sides were getting soft, but 4-6" of good ice all the way across. Starting to open up at the east end. Fishing was very good. Nice perch 2/1 (males /females).  Must be getting ready to spawn. Ratio before was 10/1 females/ males. Doubt if I make another trip on the ice.  Short year, but I did find some nice fish this year. :)

Are you fishing the north end , across and near the rock cliffs.  How big are the perch? Are you targeting blueback?

Perch on lower have been about 6 to 9 inches.   I have only caught a few kokanee.    I just use my fish finder.    I am going to try it tomorrow after\noon.   The other day there was four inches of snow.  I bet there is almost a foot of snow on it now.  Hope that there isn't a lot of slush under.

Just ordered some tackle.  Probably because I got my Ice mag from In-Fisherman.  Should look the ice gear over some.

Got it on the 12th of Nov.,  and it had an inch of fat on it.  It was the fattest deer I've seen in awhile so we should have a cold winter!

That's good news Bullpine !  Last time I saw an inch of fat was on a buck in the late '70's   That year we saw wicked cold maxed at 42 below.  Lake Pend O'reille froze completely over. Seems we saw below zero for about 6 weeks.     Bring it on !    ;)2

They had a pretty good fat layer down in this neck of the woods too. I hope the Pend freezes over as well as Preist Lake, planning a trip to Preist in February. Sure would be fun to get some walleyes at Lake Pend O'reille.

Got my hopes up last year.  Haven't even got the gear out yet.   Hope the ice comes faster this year.

Just left fernan Lake and it is frozen to the dock.   Lakes up  north probably have a good start.

Upper twin has a skim of ice on far side already.    Not ice on lower twin yet.  Friend of mine said chain lakes are starting to freeze up.  Any one went up to gamble or shepard yet?
