slippy clutch on jiffy model 30
« on: Dec 21, 2005, 08:11 PM »
any one else have a problem like this????  my model 30 starts drilling fine, but when it comes to breaking through the last 1-2 inches the auger slowes down and stops while the motor is still reving high.  i belive myself to be a very good small engine machanic and sure i can fix it.  but just wanted to know if there is an adjustment for that or if you need to buy new clutch parts.  or am i way off base and its somthing totaly different? kinda like to know before i tear it all apart to see. it still gets me by but kinda a pain in the butt. >:(

Sounds like a clutch issue. Take you clutch apart and make sure there is not any oil/grease on the shoes or the drum. If there is a small leak in your gear box it could be the issue. Not much to the clutch....couple of shoes, springs and a drum for the shoes to grab against.

The clutch can also get rusty and the shoes won't grag as well. They are pretty easy to take apart. Good luck.

i think mine does something similar too. done it since it was new. it seems to "bind" and sometimes the blade stops completely. it also makes a kind of grinding/chattering noise when it does this. but if you pull up on it slightly, it starts cutting normally. think it's the same deal???   ???

Mine never did the binding, grinding, or chatering thing.  Maby you should pull it apart and take a look at what is going on in there. The only thing mine would do is slipp when you got to the last 1 1/2"-2" of ice, or if you pushed down on it. I had oily stuff on my clutch pads, and the outer clutch housing.  I cleaned them up and it woks GREAT now.  %100 Better,

thanks all for the info
