U tube videos
« on: Dec 05, 2017, 05:59 PM »
Just watching some early ice, u tube videos , mainly in Minnesota , where there has been a few fatalities, and I don’t understand why the majority of the guys shooting these videos don’t have floating suits !! They all have a $300-500 flasher but not the first line of defense in case u go in !! Am I missing something here ??

Not that long ago float suits didn't exist. Fortunately as you and I may be able to afford it, it is a large added cost. I know I had a flasher before I had a float suit. Even though I have striker bibs and coat I would first and foremost rather have a spud, picks, and common sense.

That’s where common sense should kick in, on 1 1/2” ice taking a chance with or without a floating suit of some kind !  Even with the added cost, if your at the bottom of the lake I guess it don’t matter ! My kids will have a floating suit before a flasher !! Just my thinking

I don't have kids but if I did they would have a flasher before a floating suit.   Put a life jacket on the kids, that way they aren't outgrowing a $400-$500 suit every year.   They won't outgrow a flasher and a life jacket provides better flotation than a suit.

Striker Ice has reasonably priced youth sizes ...with adjustable in seam on the bibs $119 not a bad price...find a retailer discount even cheaper .

Not everybody has $500 to replace their coat and bibs with a different set of coat and bibs

I started with life jacket...still bring that out on early ice.

Then I got Arctic Armor...sweat bag.

To be honest, I was a lot more comfortable with my life jacket.

I wear my striker suit out in my boat too. I fished a bass tournament when it poured for 7 hours straight. At the weigh-in I was the only one that was dry. Everyone else's rain suits leaked. I also got 2nd place. Off topic, but wanted to share in case anyone's on the bubble about a striker suit. You can use it in spring and in the boat.

are the you tube vids dated? if they are current, then their priorities weren't straight buying a camera before a float suit.

i retired my artic armor and ice armor years ago. striker has the market now and for a good reason.

we bring boat seat cushions too in case some one falls in. attach it to your smitty sled rope and toss the cushion to the person in need. i use clips on that rope and it glows in the dark and has reflectors built-in.
