willow slough
« on: Jan 31, 2016, 10:43 AM »
How was the bite yesterday for those who ventured out. Friend of mine said that there was open water out there at noon. Anyone else see this? Did anyone stay all day. Hope there was no need for anyone to be rescued. Usually when the weather turns there is always someone to fall thru in the channels.

There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

yes, A bishop...i was out there yesterday(Saturday) along with 2 others. fished from 5am til 5:30pm..bite was good all day except for a few SLOW periods...parked off filbert lane and fished straight out from MORMAN HILL ALONG THE MAIN CHANNEL ..i used a BLACK AND PURPLE FISKA SIZE 14... my buddy had success on a BLACK RATSO SIZE 12 and my other buddy caught them on a WHITE GIL-PILL...all tiped with WHITE SPIKES. the ice got soft quickly but everyone got off safely in the back as well as in the front by HQ. (i drove around after i was done to check on how my other buddy did).yes there is open water out in the middle along one of the islands..but that was from the geese..seen also where people fell in off FILBERT LANE last week...IT WAS ONLY 10FT OFF THE BANK IN 1FT OF WATER. ;D

A guy who was a head of me turned on patrol road might of been you. I went to the next road to go to the hill. After I seen the road closed I went to h q and seen a bunch of guys already going out about 5 30. I decided to go home. Thought I don't want wet today. Out front is deeper water and didn't want to chance it. Hope to try again on the 13 of Feb. providing there is good ice. Was hoping to venture back out on the 6th but don't think the ice will be ready then. We are suppose to get snow a few times before the 13, just hope it doesn't put too much of a blanket on any remaining ice.

Guy has a "Gopher" mounted in the wall.  One on those grabbers.  Must be a gill wacker, helps pull them out the hole when the willow gills see light.  Change the little black rubber end pieces with dry wall screws.  Lol

The harbor is open with a lot of trails over the lake (channels). If the wind blows like it is suppose to the next few days you should be able to get the boat in. By the weekend there will be fishing open water. If you aren't one to watch the game go get ya sum bull gills.

PRETTY MUCH ALL OPEN WATER. YOU CAN GET YOUR BOAT OUT. JUST A LITTLE BIT OF ICE IN PROTECTED BAYS AND COVES. I AM SURE WITH THE NEXT 2 DAYS IN THE 40'S PEOPLE WILL BE PUTTIN THEIR BOATS IN. THE BOAT RAMPS AREN'T LOCKED UP AND ARE ACCESSABLE.

I was told yesterday ice fishing on the slough is closed and allowing boats on water. I guess a lot of open water.

Anyone been to the Slough lately? I live an hour and half away. Drove there one time only to turn around and go home cause the ice was bad. I've read here recently that they were letting boats out as of Feb.5, so I'm not sure if it'll be ready by this weekend. Thanks all. Be safe and good luck.

I haven't been there since the warm up, but I would bet this wind is keeping most of it open. I hope I'm wrong.

They got me last year. Try to park up front but not much you can do when it gets dark.

Hopefully it locks back up soon. I am 1.5 hours away as well and would like to get on some ice this weekend. My cousin owns a couple big farm ponds up there as well, thinking they might be ready if the slough isn't.

I called the slough this morning. The fella said it was 90% open water. Even with the freeze he didn't think it will be safe enough for ice fishing. Going to look for some smaller ponds. Hope they lock up. Fingers crossed!!!

they also dont know how to run a duck draw there and also dont know where "the blinds" are at around that place or even on the map. so im certainly not going to go by their words they dont think it will freeze up and be fishable.
Got one goin'!
