A couple of guys on the board have them, I got to try Ryanlookingforperch's Icegator last winter, I was impressed. It had a lot of torque, and cut really fast. My only complaint is they don't have a 10" version out yet, I prefer the bigger hole when sight fishing. Which one were you looking at?

Thanks for the reply.

I found there are couple of brand carry electric augers, strikemaster, Jiffy they both have a 8 inch model.

this is a Jiffy electric auger.

I agree with you, the bigger the hole is, the easier to landing and watching.

we dont have a ice gator dealer in Canada, do we?

No Canadian dealer as far as I know, everybody ordered them straight from Icegator. I haven't seen the jiffy or strikemaster electrics in action, but the big downside to them is they need an external battery to run, that's why the cord hanging off the side. Not a big deal if you drive your truck on the ice and can hook to the battery in it, or have a hardsided hut with a good 12v system on it. I'd imagine the electrical system on a quad or electric start sled could work, but you'd have to keep the engine running and all the accessories off. The 'Gators get charged at home before you leave for the lake, then just push a button and go.

way better than the jiffy.

While that may be better than the jiffy, the icegator seems to have the advantage...

• 12 Volt Battery Pack     24V for the gator
• 12 Volt Battery Charger   Again, 24 V
• 12 Volt, 1 AMP Car Charger  I was told by Greg that there is one availble for the gator
• Tufflite Dupont Zytel Handle System Handles are CNC machined out of 3/4" HDPE plastic making for an indestructible handle.
• 90 RPM Auger Rotation 375 RPM at the cutting edge
• 40-1 Gear Ratio  Single stage high-speed, high torque gear reduction
ELL-8 8" Electra Power Auger 29 lbs 27lbs with the lead acid batteries, 19 with the Li Ion

In the world of electric augers, the gator seems to be at the top of the list.  And this years model promises to be even better than last.  I'll let you all know how good it is once mine gets here.   ;D

only downfall i could see is you'd need backup batteries...limit to ###s of hole you can cut....

Friend of mine has a strike master electric, and really likes it. He has had it a couple years now and no problems.

The one I got to use drilled 40-50 holes through almost 3' without slowing down hardly at all.  Don't really see the need for having backups along, although it wouldn't hurt anything...

I have an old Electra 8".  Has no attached gel cell so I drag out the deep-cycle from the boat and it lasts for ever.  It runs slower than the current models but no end of torque and zero fumes in a shack.
