Welcome to the shanty!  You may want to see if you can change your name to not be your email address...

Pictures aren't posted directly, you have to add a url from a hosting site such as photobucket. There is a how to for posting pictures i. The pictures sub forum.

Hope you can get it uploaded and someone can help identify the rod for you.

Cheers

BRANSON MANUFACTURING

This company on McGill St. in Peterborough was founded by Jack Branson. In 1936 they made a large lake trout trolling reel for Frank Edgar of Lucky Strike (a limited run of 1000). Branson also made a very nice level wind reel called the 'Kawartha' and thereby earned its spot in Canada's fishing tackle history. In the mid-1950's, they manufactured a metal collapsible survival rod for the Canadian Air Force, that contained hooks, lures and line in the handle. It and a matching reel were attached to the pilots' ejection seats so a stranded pilot could catch fish until he was rescued.

Looks like it could possibly be one of these minus the reel?

I have a similar rod around some where. It is not exactly like your but the tip does pull back like yours. It is around some where, I just need to figure out where. The thought that it might be a survival pole is intriguing.

I know it is a bag with a telescoping casting rod that all of the rod goes into the handle.

This is the reel that went with it.  From a companion article.  My father-in-law is a Ret. Lt. Col. in the RCAF and he said he remembers something like that but not while he was in-service maybe at a display over the years.

Your best bet to ascertain value is twofold:

1) call the Canadian Antique Fishing Tackle Association (CAFTA)
2) Western Canada Aviation Museum @ 204-786-5503

They would be able to point you in the right direction.
