Truck Mileage Concerns
« on: Dec 21, 2005, 02:19 PM »
So I'm driving down the road the other day and got to thinkin'...jeez it must be real expensive to run a Dodge or Ford
with gas prices the way they are right now :'(  Its bad enough when you only have to pay your own vehicles gas but to have to cover a tow vehicles as well...now thats just gotta hurt ;D :P ;D

Just a little smack talk before the tourney :-*

My OLD dodge seems to be running pretty good after a couple hundred thousand miles. I'm sick of going places by myself just because my buddies in their Fords and Chevys keep getting stuck. lol

2000 F150 142,568.7 miles and going strong with very little other than regular maintenance.  I will admit, I had an 1987 Toyota plane Jane 4X4 that went over 350,000 miles.

I'm a Dodge fan myself.

On a similar note I try to buy products made in N America whenever possible.  We all have become consumers wanting a lot for a little.  The problem is that this will be just like inflation.  You raise your prices and so does everyone else such that in the long run your no better off and pennies are a pain because they aren't worth anything.  So buy foreign long enough and your job will be foreign as well.  Just my rant.  Yes my job has been outsourced to India and the like.  I have a job now but am making 60% of what I was 5 years ago. >:(

I won't buy a browning because they all have "Made in Japan" on them.  What the H3ll do the japanese know about hunting anyway.

rant rant rant

My dad has a 1978 ford econoline van w/ 438,237.6 miles on it,  thats of course 3 engines, 2 trannies, and a couple of rear ends to go that far

I've got a 1985 chev k10 w/ 242,144 miles on it,  half dozen engines, trannies, axles,  body panels later its still going.

Its all in how you take care of it,  my dad has had his beater van since it was new in 78 well maintained.  my 85 chev i'm the 4th and final owner its my project and toy.

my daily driver is a 2004 f350 diesel,  I get about 18mpg  regardless of what I'm doing.

As my grandfather in-law, a former ford emplyee, said after a few c**ktails during deer season, "I'd rather see my sister in a brothel than a Chevy in my driveway."   :roflmao: :roflmao:  He doesn't have a sister.

I agree fishking. I had a 1978 Chevy ¾ ton truck for 20 yrs.I had the heavy-duty one towing camper package. That truck lasted me 300,000 miles. Same engine same transmission. The only problem with the truck the body was poor. I had to replace the fenders hood and put on new door skins. I even got money back from GM for the gas tank problem . That truck back in 1978 cost me 6,000 new. I sold the truck to my buddy for 200 dollars. Guess what its still running today. Now I have a F350 dually to haul my camper and boat around. This is a good truck too, but you must maintain them or they wont last. Change engine oil every 1 thousand miles change the transmission oil every two years and change the pumpkin oil every 2 yrs too. Today look what you have to pay for a good heavy-duty truck. 35 thousand. Anybody that’s willing to pay this much for a truck is nuts.

That depends how you drive your truck. If you drive it back and forth to work and your enjoyment, change it every 3 thousand. Your owner’s manual will tell you to change it every 7 thousand. If you listen to them you will be back in 5 yrs looking for a new motor. A work truck you must change the oil a lot because the heat is breaking the oil down. I’m sure we will get a lot of different opinion here but the old saying pay me now or pay me later. Its up to you, if you like to get a different truck every few yrs just run it. I like to keep my money in my back pocket and spend more time fishing then worrying about a monthly payment. Maintain your truck and it will last a long time.

yeha my 78 3/4 chevy trucl with the inline 6 has got 140,000 or 240,000 or who the heck knows the things older than I am but still starts up every morning ive put 100,000 miles on it in the past 5 yrs mainly driving around to go fishing. I am always helping people move with it, haul around firewood, equipment, cynder blocks you name it this truck does it :) and still gets 14-18 mpg cant beat that when a new truck today may get 10-12 mpg if your lucky. I have had 2 deer bounce off my truck(no damage) I hit a tree with it once at 35 mph (no damage) Ive put it in the ditch a few times (no damage) If I ever did this with a new 35,000 plus truck the thing would probably be totaled and my truck only cost me $450 gotta love it :)

The Japanese don't have to know anything about hunting. That's up to the guys at Browning. All the Japs have to do is build the same Citori shotgun over and over and over and over again, and build it well! Or is it build it rite?

Hey I bought a Browning and used it for a number of years.  Not built nearly as well as a Ruger and the steel was substandard and had a tendency to rust very easily.  Keep sending your money over seas and your job will soon follow.
