Hebgen is pretty darn close too,..1/2 locked up, narrows looked good. Quake not so much... going after big game in the morn, but I'm throwing in the spud bar and a rod, we'll see if I can get my ice fix on the way back.

I hit dailey at first ice last year. It's freaky when the ice and water is so clear you can't tell how thick the ice is. I drilled holes the whole way out cause it was impossible to tell how thick it was.  Hope the ice keeps growing but a warm wind will prob open it back up.

It was super clear ice. Its always a little freaky feeling to start walking on water again ;D. We drilled lots of holes always checking. I agree hope this little warmer weather dont set it back again

fished the narrows, 4 inches of ice. Not far to open water but it was into the main lake body, the grayling arm is solid. Caught 4 lost 3 @) one big male bow and A Brook Trout in the bunch. First Brookie I've caught on hebgen! :) not very large 16 inches or so and on the down cycle, but I thought that was cool. While I was out there I got a text from a buddy "Some D.A. is icefishin at the narrows",... guess he didn't see my truck.

@BackCountry Kyle, do you think they will allow the water near the dam to ice up this year?  Or are they still working on that project?

Hyalite should be in soon then!  Lows in the teens and highs just above freezing should be fine for thickening it up.  The lack of new snow will help out too.

I went to hyalite last week. It wasn't locked up yet...only had a very fine layer. Hope that's changed. Let me know if you head up there.

still working on that dam. It will ice up around new years then they will probably break it up again in late march or april. I know there has been discussion on this before but it does ice over all but maybe 10ft around the spillway.

Ya, I went there last year near xmas and it wasn't iced up then around February during the ice fishing tournament it was iced up.  I make a trip there once a year from Billings and love the area right near the spillway.  Otherwise I hit the narrows.
