State High School Ice Fishing Tournament
« on: Nov 06, 2019, 02:14 PM »
I'm the coach of the Rice Lake Fishing team and they just listed the lakes available to fish for the state tournament over in Eagle River. Just wondering if anyone can give recommendations on which lakes to target for the species that are able to be registered. If it is like last years tournament we'll get to measure 5 pike, 5 bass, 5 walleye and 15 panfish. I don't need spots as we'll come find our own but wouldn't mind what lakes to hit for decent action for specific species.

Here is the list of lakes

Lac Vieux Dessert
North & South Twin
Big Sand
Long
Kentuck Lake
Anvil
Pioneer
Deerskin
Silver
Eagle
Catfish & Cranberry Lakes
Scattering Rice
Yellow Birch

I wish I could chip in more on this but I really haven't fished any of these through the ice, and I've fished all but 4 or 5 for muskies. Seen some really impressive walleyes on Eagle in the spring but the slot on the whole ER chain is not conducive to lotsa inches if you can only register legal fish (3 fish, no minimum, no keep slot 14 - 18" and one over 18".)

Fished Kentuck (first time) this year. Seem to have good everything...

North/South Twin crystal clear and can be a tough fish. Only been on that once a long time ago.

Vieux Desert - Boundary water and big. Fished that twice through the ice. One nice pike (31") and some decent perch (10 - 12").

Like I said, not much help... Best of luck to you and the team!
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Good crappie in Kentuck. Catfish has a lot of northern. Sorry but that’s all I got. Good Luck !
