I've always just used tip ups for fishing but thinking I might want to try jigging this year. I would like to get a fishfinder but the the lines and the colors just confuse me. I went fishing with a friend on his boat once and it showed little fishies on the screen when there were fish under the boat. Could you use one of those for ice fishing?

My dad built a set up to use his fish finder on the ice. The problem was it didn't have a battery.  So we had to pack a car battery out on the ice and had to charge it up the night before. worked great

you do not need to have a flasher which you see used before, the showdown uses a vertical screen.  you can see your jig very easily and see a fish as it is moving up and down towards your jig.

Whatever you have, will work, if you learn how to interpret what it is showing you. Everyone will have an opinion on whats best, go with what works, like a Ford! ;D

I could probably learn to use one if someone could  show me. My dad took me fishing when I was younger but it seems he has been to busy the last few years to go fishing. I have been reading on some of the other threads on the site and it seems like the showdown would probably be my best bet due to my knowledge (or lack there of) and my budget.

7.3 baby!!!!

Thats what I have with a 6 spd.

I wonder how well that 6.7 common rail will do over the years.

7.3 baby!!!!

I would love to have a 7.3. My grandpa has one that has like 40,000 miles on it. I keep begging him to sell it to me but he says that was the last good motor Ford made and he was taking it to the grave. I would like to have a 6.0 though. They sound awesome! Sorry to sidetrack this thread.

6.0/6.4's have alot of power, little lag. but have expensive problems that plague the engine.  7.3's just run.

Fish bite or they don't bite.. a good fish finder "shows" these modes and I guess that is why it is called the "showdown";D  It really shows the fish and how it attacks your lure.. I am sure the color graphs do this too.. and so theyare good too i guess.

Showdown 5.6 dual beam and Dodge CTD. Ford is OK if you like a company introducing a new motor every 5 years because they finally just gave up on fixing the old one.

I have been having some problems with mine blowing the fuse from time to time.  Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do to stop it?  Showdown 5.6 duel beam is the model.  Ir doesn't do it all the time so it has me scratching my head.

The troller worked great!!!! Read the bottom great, marked fish great!!!!! But would take my Humminbird ice-45 over a showdown any day!!!! The color tells you way more IMO.....
