Title: MN Snotsicle Strike Force Thread
Post by: Skipper on Dec 03, 2009, 07:32 PM
We are Snotsicle Strike Force MN!!!!!!!

Our Mission: To fish our brains out and bring the joy of icefishing to as many people as possible.

Our Vision: To live in a world where we don't have to melt the walrus tusks (snotsicles) from our beards for a trophy fish picture.

To Join:

1) You must love icefishing

2)  You must either live in the Great State of Minnesota or fish our waters when you can. Out of state members are allowed as long as they love MN and her lakes.

3) You must not be a Green Bay Packers fan, sorry but we have standards.

4) You may never say the words "it's too cold to fish" again.

If this sound like your type of deal, go ahead and copy the banner to your signature area. If you need help doing this, send me a PM.

Have to admit, I'm a Packers fan. However, since the GB management has a strong belief in charity work and helping neighboring communities, they have donated the Vikes 3 pro-bowl members in the last five years(Farve, Longwell, Sharper). Maybe, Team Snotsicle Strike Force can see the kind gestures of the Packer's organization, and welcome a Minnesota Ice Fishing Lover and Packer fan to the team as a kind gesture in return.  ;D

Mn snotsicle strike force will will be in the annals of history next to the kid in Christmas Story licking the fire pole.
On a side note I get better snotsicles when milk is consumed, longer and stronger.
May the bite be with you and the snotsicle breaks before pulling any hair. ;D

Ok so has everybody licked their wounds from Sunday? Now the important question...Who's actually got safe ice and has pulled a fish through it?
Title: Ssf
Post by: two_fish_tommy on Dec 08, 2009, 10:06 PM
Not sure who has safe ice. Just hoping this wind and snow dosent screw it up!

What kind of "Force" are we...I think we should make this thread so that it stays at the top of the board...plus there aren't many fellow snotsicles out there it seems...How is everybody doing so far this year? I've been out once and it was productive but nothing too exciting. Caught some crappies and a bunch of sunnies on the morning bite...

Let's see...love MN and all her beauty and hate the Packers...I don't think that's a whole lot of hoops...Although (not that I'm a Packer fan) I think being a MN Wild fan can make up for being a Packer fan...

Hello from a snotsickle hopeful...  I am from Nebraska, but have spent one to two weeks in your beautiful state every summer for over thirty years.  My extended family has a cabin on Ottertail lake and that has been my #1 vacation of choice for a long time.  I spend about a week at an incredible resort on Blackduck lake every year as well, but sadly... my friends are all of the age to start having children and we haven't done the blackduck trip in three years.  I love the Vikes, and dislike the pack.  I can't hate them, because they provide a great rivalry.   I would love to be a snotsickle strike force member, but I haven't ever "ice" fished in Minnesota.  Because I am of Strong Moral Fiber, I would not feel right posting anything until I have actually developed a Minnesota snotsickle, and was accepted into the strike force by a body of my peers.  My wife and I recently lost her wonderful grandmother, Dixie, one of the greatest ladies I have ever met, and she left my wife a bit of money.  For the nine years that I have been with my wife, she has made only about five Minnesota trips, but has fallen in love.  We just set a closing date on a cabin with one acre on Rush Lake.  Figured it was a better investment than the stock market.  Look forward to spending a lot more time in your incredible state.  In closing...  I believe Frank Sinatra once said...  I feel sorry for folks that don't drink because when they get up in the morning, that is the best that they are going to feel all day.  I have a similar mindset when it comes to minnesota.  I feel sorry for minnesota'ns because when they go out to fish, they are already fishing some of the greatest waters on the planet...  Where the hell do you all take fishing vacations to...  Alaska?

I had thought of signing up as a MN snotsickle but was afraid that down the road if you had rules about the Greenbay Packers that you might deciede to start discriminating against UND Sioux Hockey fans!!!!  Who cares about football there is a sport on ICE... and the UND Sioux rule!  Golden Gophers always second.....

I motion that Hardwater Problem is accepted into the brotherhood of the MNSSF...as far as Corny, I also move to accept him as long as he is a Wild fan, College rivalries are great! If somebody seconds the motion I think you two are in  :o
By the way guys I think we should start posting pictures of our prized catches within the force so here's a 30 inch muskie I caught yesterday. A word of warning to anybody who is catching a muskie through the ice, when you get their head started up the hole back up because I bent down to grab the fish once his head started and he shot out of the hole and almost hit me in the face!

Thanks fellas, I will post it with pride, but would feel like a poser if I claimed to be on a strike force without having first struck.  I will have to plan a trip up there before spring.  We are waiting for a house to sell in California before my wife and I can finalize the sale in Minnesota.  I was up there in October to help close the cabin for the season, and it was snowing, but no hard water.  Thanks again.  Really excited to fish in the show!!!  I feel like I am being called up to the big league.

lol it just wouldn't be a Minnesota sports team if they dominated their opponents the whole season...but they deserve a new stadium! We have a Great QB who's about to retire (again) and we have a runningback who is stellar (as long as he can hold onto the ball), I don't think that's worth building a new stadium for...if they want to threaten us with moving and then play like this, I say don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Cubs fan here too...  fishing is a lot like the cubs season,  no matter how good it is, you will always leave wanting more.  There will always be somebody out there with more ability, skill, or an owner willing to spend more money on a nicer boat, it's motor,  and electronics, taking MOST of the LUCK and HEART out of the game, not unlike what the Yankees have done.   There will always be next trip, and never that disappointment when the your team can't do it again...  we live there!!!  Patience in fishing has lent itself well to baseball, and since i can't remember which one I loved first, I am just grateful to have loved both for so long.  Yankees blow!  sorry yank fans....

This is my only problem with that guy...but he loves to set records so he could bust a few at the same time.
1) Oldest QB to play in the Super Bowl
2) Oldest QB to win the SB
3) FIRST QB TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL AS A VIKING!!!
there's probably more but I just can't think of them right now...

And if they dont win Himo will be the first one to post I told you all year this would happen. So i say FAVRE HAS HAD THE BEST YEAR OF HIS CAREER. my feeling exactly. I have autographed mini helmets, footballs and 8x10 pics from Brett Favre.what he did was business and revenge motivated. hell I think I hate Ted Thompson more than Brett Favre does.can't blame him for what he did. after it is all said and done and he FINALLY DOES RETIRE FOR GOOD, and enters the Hall of Fame, at least it will be as a GreenBay Packer. oh and as far as Aaron Rodgers.at least 10 years from now the packers can say they had back to back hall of fame quarterbacks. maybe he will come to the Vi-Queens also but at least Packers fans got the most bang for their buck out of both of them. LOL!!!what the hell are we going to talk about after football is over with? hey I got a good idea, ICEFISHING!!! later guys and enjoy your game this weekend.

Favre did to the Vi-Queens, what he did to the Packers 2 yrs. ago. NFC Championship game. he throws a interception, over time, his team loses. you tell me. The Vi-Queens had to play 1 more game to find out they were as good as all the other teams sitting at home watching the SuperBowl.typical end of season result.get used to it.

so what you are saying is you guys giving up 51 points to the cardinals is no differant than the vikes crushing dallas and going toe to toe with the saints, sounds like the FAVRE jealousy has bitten anthoer packers fan! you think FAVRE had anything to do with 12 men in the huddle losing 5yds and having to force a throw to get back into field goal range, nafhu tahi was the extra guy in the huddle not FAVRE, or blame childress for not just kicking the field goal, woul you like me to keep going, remember we did not have FAVRE last year and the packers still couldnt win the division so talk all you want untill your team backs it up we wont take you serious !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :woot: :woot: :woot:

it really don't matter how many points which team gets. division titles don't matter.the Packers and the Vi-queens are both in the same boat, at home while the 2 best teams in football are going to the big dance. get over the loss, it's only a game. minnesota fans should be used to the end of year collapse. Packer fans waited 30 years for a superbowl to return the Lombardi trophy back home. in that 30 years the Packers sold out every home game.every single home game for 30 years. that is 240 games.we could beat this thread to death until someone posts something that will cause me to delete it but I do not want to do that. I would stop making fun of Green Bay, but Detroit is too easy of a target. It is like picking on a guy in a wheel chair for not being able to walk. You feel so bad for them, you just want to give them a hug and say "it will get better, just keep practicing!".

I refuse to put football in the same category as religion and politics. GB and MN fans shall taunt and provoke until one of the teams cease to exist, then we will have no choice but to rip on the poor lions.

Here's a link to the MN DNR website with non-resident angling liscense information.  Northern MN can sometimes get walkable ice by Thanksgiving.  My first trip out in central MN is usually a week or two into December.  Obviously snow amounts and temp play a huge role, but this is average.  If you want 'driveable' ice I wait until after New Years usually, unless up north farther.  Local conditions always vary, I'm sure you know the drill!

Rochester has an airport, but it's tough to get a flight to fly into there without going through MSP first and then taking a puddle jumper down.

I just bought a new 8 x 16 wheel house.  Hard water can't get here fast enough.

ahhhh....with duck season opening this weekend that means that ice fishing isn't too far away! How are my Snotsicle brethren doing? Anything real exciting happen over the summer? Hey surflizard...why do you want to fish in Rochester? If you're going to fly up here you might as well go farther north where there's some really good fishing. Maybe if the weather is right you could time it so you're here for the ice fishing show...that's a good time for sure!

well just cuz that plan changed doesn't mean you shouldn't still come up. Usually the Ice Show is in the first week or two of December but I'm hoping that we have enough ice to at least walk on then. There might be enough if you get up to the Brainerd area or Alexandria or Mille Lacs...lots of really good fishing up there!

Agreed, that ice show is worth making if you do get up here.  It's huge, you could spend two days and a paycheck or two easy.  It's Dec. 3-5 this year, you might be able to find some walkable ice somewhere too.  Hopefully it'll be cold enough you can really earn your snotsicle honors!

Don't know if anybody is on tonight,  I just arrived back in Omaha, ne. today and I am sitting at the computer at work after spending the last week raking up all of my fallen leaves at the cabin in Minnesota.  I spent most days working in a T-SHIRT!!!   Don't get me wrong I loved getting all of my raking done in moderate temps, but it barely even frosted at night!  I am hoping to earn my snotsicle strike force banner this year and was wishing that it would already be getting cold up there.  Looks like it will be a while!!!

I think the fact that he has a window licker pansy for a coach is holding him back. I still can't get over the last time the Purple and Green played each other and with 20 some seconds left in the first half and two timeouts good old "Chili" takes a knee!!! **censored**?! I'm don't really bleed purple but I at least want to see them put up a good fight! Then there's the brilliant move of dumping Moss and getting NOTHING in return. Of course he was a problem, you knew that when you got him and when you did have him, he never had the ball thrown his way! I'd be a pain too if I was an elite player who was nothing but a decoy on a team that wouldn't win!
Anyways, I can smell ice forming and my Vexilar is getting twitchy! I can't wait for ice or the ice show!

I picked up an VS825c for $328 out-of-pocket.  I have to contact the store as the stabilizer fin is missing.  After using it 2x, i'm loving it, so are the kids, and yeah, the panner is next on the list.

Where are Skip's priorities?  :)

So back to the Queens and the complete meltdown we had this year. What position/player should they be looking at picking up during the draft? I know the QB position is an issue but what do you do w/ TJack or Webb? Personally I see more future w/ Webb than TJack.

Maybe we should have a Twins snotsicle logo since they don't have any stadium issues and they just signed Thome again (yes I have a man crush on him and I'm not afraid to admit it! ;D). Pitchers and catchers will be reporting to spring training in what, like 6 weeks?

Got back on Tuesday evening from the Heavenly waters of Minnesota.  The temps and weather were nothing short of miserable.  I fished Rush lake near my cabin and only got out one day!!!  Five day trip and only fished one day....  We have a five month old and no running water at the cabin in the winter, so keeping the cabin warm and a pot of water on the woodstove was priority one and two.  Fished from my new clam, and other than a few of the bolts snapping off, it was a good day.  Caught a couple of nice northerns and some eyes!!!  I am hoping to get my banner up today, in that weather I earned it!!!  It was a feat keeping the tip up hole thawed!!!

If you need help doing this, send me a PM.

ahhh the great walrus tusks... i have heard that growing a pair of those on the thin little peachfuzz chin of a teenage boy is a right of passage in some of back water lake communities in the northern portion of the state... similar to killing a lion with a spear in Africa to some. this can be an emotional experience for a father when his some grows his first snotsickle on the lake.

Ya had me a bit worried as I quickly read your comment.  All I took from it was Teenaged boy and peach fuzz!!!  Read it again and got her all cleared up.  Whew!!!  I'm tired, don't do that to me.

Can't wait!  Going to be home for Christmas this year so hope to get a few days in.  Aniticipation is killing me for first ice.  The lakes started to freeze over by me, then warmed up.

i haven't been on the site for a while. kind of sad to see the SSF has slowed down so much...oh well it's a new year, proven by the fact that the little ponds are frozen and the ice fishing show is this weekend!!! Hope to see some of you guys out there!

No snow means no dog out ice fishing with me.  Not risking the chance with her on the ice.  Bring your cleats!

I got about 30 sheet metal screws in the bottom of each boot... no worries! Here is that snow, by the way. We have about 3'' on the ground in Milaca right now. It's wet and sticky too, should put an end to the ice skating. Now I won't have to worry about melting hyfax too... sweet @)

Im def in, My buddy and i have been using the motto "the only day its gonna be to cold to fish is the day we wake up hung over naked on the ice". Pretty sure that's never gonna happen because I'm partial to my clothing.
