Lake Champlain: South Bay
« on: Dec 17, 2007, 03:49 PM »
Hey all,

Heading up that way later in the week.  Does the lower end of Champlain have safe ice?

Is there a place to get minnow's down there?  (Whitehall???)

Thanks in advance.

South Bay is frozen, but it was not safe saturday and with this snow it could be trouble.  I drove by saturday, no one on ice, ice around shore of boatlaunch was broken up, i saw no holes or reminence of holes out their.
My new Motto for the New Year #@%& it i'm going fishing

Matt...Thanks

Would you make any other recommendations for the area.  Looking to fish Thursday afternoon and Friday.  If you were I, where would you go?

Again, Thanks.

4 to 5 inches on south bay, not much biting yet, as soon as the low pressure moves in, we'll start getting fish.
Instant Karma's gonna get you.....

King, Not sure if I'll be up there until later Thursday, but maybe we'll meet up.

How come your not going up the mountain to one of the Bow lakes or even Burden?

I have been fishing those lakes for the past three weeks and they need a break. I want to give the biggerlakes around me some time to be safe. I'm sure some of them are but I want to be safe and not take any chances. ;) I'll probably be on Glass lake or Tsatsawassa Lake next week.

Do you ever go up the mountain, past Taborton and fish a lake called Spring, I think.  Haven't been up there in many many years, but use to catch many fish.  Can you still fish up there?

How much ice on crystal?

Thanks.

I have driven by Spring lake and I know someone that lives on it, but I have never fished it. I don't know if Crystal lake is safe yet but I was walking on the cove by Lakeview. I am going to give it another week to thicken up. There is a lot of springs in that lake so i want to be careful. ;)

I haven't been in two weeks, but back then there was 3" ice on the far south end of south bay.

unless you have access to private property the furthest point you can get on is just past Pike Brook. You can park along side of the road and you are right on the water.Stay away from the left side of the bay thats where the brook comes in .When you head out of the bay stay right ,The diameter is about 1/2 mile.If the ice is safe you should see some shanty,s.
At one time that was the best spot on the bay

yeah i hate them. good when u have kids with u cause the action can be non stop but i dont like to eat them plus i read that there diet in the spring consists almost entirely on fish eggs. walleyes in particular. northern pike will hit them on a tip up though ;D

heading north on 22 just as soon as u cross the bridge i was on the left hand side prolly 100 yards out in 15 feet of water. im sure there is more ice down at the south end of the bay.

if they were i would have heard about because it would be a landmark event. there really isnt much walleye success anymore. sometimes people pick one up here and there but its a big deal when they do cause it dont happen much.
