Marmish rod.... How to set up?

So I decided to buy a couple of these rods which look sweet.  Now when I'm holding it in my left hand should the handle be pointing down??

What is the rubber o-ring for on the shaft??
Does the Rubber tip need to be pointing up or down when fishing

Mine are set up handle down, spring on top. I thread the line under the o-ring and keep it towards the base of the rod. Doing so holds tension on the line when pulling line off the spool and reeling in so you don't get loose line in the reel.

I hold mine in my right hand with the crank handle down. The line goes under that O-ring like a guide. You can adjust the tension on the line by sliding the o-ring up or down the shaft.
